Explosion effects need more work

I like to think a lot of the current battle effects are just because it's an alpha and that they will be improved at a later stage including the weapon sounds. It isn't uncommon for games to start with basic effects and such during early builds just so they can test the functionality and such.



Of course if they didn't have plans to improve them then i agree they could use improving :P.

look explosions of the capital ships in " Sins of a solar Empire " ....



Ships are so big they take about 10 seconds burning in flamme and going out of control before exploding...



Explosions should be improved in ES... i think so when i saw my first battle.

I agree, I found the battle cinematic to be too shallow. I would really like to see more explosions and debris. Maybe there should be a little more movement too. From what I have seen so far, the ships just flew straight on until they either died or won. May be a little more flight routes, formations and positions toward the planet could be nice. A fleet attaking the system should maybe be in orbit of a burning planet (works not for lava planets ^^) and so on.

I second this proposal. We need loads of debris and wrecks, ships venting atmosphere and secondary explosions.

I can't see why it would be confusing,I think it will be very clear to differ a functioning ship and a burning wreck.

Since the battles are quick, with the three phases. It'll not work to leave ships still burning and slowly exploding during other phases. It'll simple be confusing. But other than that it'll be a nice addon.

Anyone ever play Nexus: the Jupiter Incident? Best. Explosions. Ever.



Each ship took forever to explode, the explosion whites out the screen if you're zoomed in, and it does extreme damage to everything nearby. Missiles did this too. One or two missiles (extremely limited ammo, easy to shoot down, large area, high damage) was a game-ender if they slipped through the enemy flak/fighter screen.

Agreed. I enjoy the battle system, but the explosions are lacking. I enjoy how the battle plays out, but...once a ship is destroyed, it seems lacking. A space ship should take its sweet, sweet time explode. I would also love to see the husks of destroyed ships floating in space.
