What tactics do we prefer?

I tend to focus on one system only, heavily defend it, and increase production to maximum, building large fleets.

I then very rapidly spread through the system, colonizing as fast as I can.

I use Sophons and try to colonise as many decent systems as possible to start with. I then focus on science and build up my systems as well as enough of an army to keep the AI at bay. Then I usually win using the wonder victory, because for some reason, I find it the easiest win.

I agree, I love a game where it challenges you to play the right way and not just mount a zerg and wipe the floor with it.

I've found that against the AI currently focusing on research for both weapons, defences and planetary resistance is generally the way to go.

Endless Space doesn't really strike me as the kind of game where you can just start off making large numbers of ships across several fleets and actually hope for it to always pay off... all it takes is to find the one empire that uses weapons and/or defences that counter your armada and you got yourself a large number of expensive bullet shields. smiley: stickouttongue

So by focusing mostly on research you can unlock various upgrades to planet exploitations, and system structures to push your production and system happiness up sky high pretty damn quick... not to mention increased fleet capacity, and when the time comes later in the game you'll have a wealth of ship module choices to then quickly churn out large number of fleets to react to the specific enemy.

i prefer doing that, then blowing up the hole as well

I prefer colonising to each individual planet's strength. I'm very territorial in that I want to control the entire region between my homeworld and my outermost colonies. Usually I make sure to have some good industry though so that if I end up at war, I have some places to let loose a steady stream of war ships.

Generally speaking though, I play as the Sophons, and usually, the only thing I do well in is research. I'm a bit of a pacifist unless attacked first, though, so normally my enemies are busy fighting other races by the time they declare war on me, making them easy to handle.

If there's a Craver faction in the game, I go all out militaristic. Never let that species go unchecked for too long.

If not I usually go for the scientific/economic route with slow expansion, making the best with what I got.

I'm a science player, probably because I tend to be a 'completest' in these Civ games. Generally the hardcore military approach (with the accompanying focus on rapid industrial development in the early game) is the most efficient, and that's probably true in this game, but I find it a bit dull zerging everyone and winning when the game's hardly started smiley: smile.

I tend to go the economic and scientific route on games like this, but so far I've only been playing on small, crowded maps and I've found myself forced to take a more militaristic route. It's been fun, but it has also made it obvious that the battle system needs some tweaking before final release. Not that I'm complaining....I know I'm playing an alpha version.

I might play my next game on a larger, less crowded map so I can get more of a feel for the exploration, scientific and economic aspects of the game.

At the beginning, I colonize 4 or 5 star systems, i always put my tax rate at the limit, winning 1 or 2 dust per turn. I try to have the best happiness in every solar system.

Then I specialize my star systems, trying to find a good industry system. When I found it, I put a governor in it.

I research the bottom part of the tree first, important things (wormholes, colonization, etc...) and better production buildings.

I go for heavily militaristic strategy with the UE, generally rush for destroyers / wormholes and take out the nearest AI early on and then focus on science / economy which has worked well for me so far. Also if the cravers aren't destroyed utterly by turn 70-100 I'm doing something wrong, i despise their very existence.

I go for scientific, and stay out of people's radar with a small, heavily fortified empire. I'll go for the "Expansion" scientific victory because by the time I get to the point that my empire has taken off, I'm 50% done with it.

How do you guys go at being diplomatic? Even when I am doing my best to stay on peoples good side my relationship deteriorates so quickly due to the size of my empire that I end up at war with them because I didn't feel like buying them off with a few thousand dust every turn.

I was diplomatic in first 30 turns, then AI said that I'm pathetic :P and was hostile on me. Ok I'm pathetic having larger army then him, larger empire, better tech. Note that he was at war with 3 others AI. I tried everything to be peace with AI but he always refuse, now (200 turns leater :P) entire galaxy hate me :P . So I find only one diplomatic solution Kill'em all!!! smiley: biggrin No xsenos will breathe under my rule smiley: biggrin

In my opinion diplomatic need to be improve a lot. Yeh I know that this is alpha version, but truly to say, on present, diplomatic barely exists in this game

The last game I won I was at peace with two races and a cold war with the Cravers, thought I would try out the creating an ally part of diplomacy so got dragged in to two wars, as if it was not hard enough with the constant pirate attacks at least it gave me a nice boost to my trade routes.

I started the game focusing on research for ship models and +approval once I had a nice little empire going I focused on keeping approval high via improvements and constant managing of tax rates, ended up winning with a 85% tax rate and overall approval at 86% fervent with a few systems pulling in over 1k dust a turn, was abit higher but just lost a system to the pirates with two more under attack.

I won the game with an economic victory and dead last in terms of military power second in every thing else. (1st in achievements)

Yeah sadly it seems in the Alpha a real diplomatic game may not be practical.

I try and balance everything together but it doesn't seem to work all that well.. so inevitably I just ended up building up an economic base until I encountered other civilisations and then I'll use the industrial ability I had developed to build out lots of ships to counter.

Still haven't been able to finish a game yet though, music hypnotizes me I think!
