Invasion seems to take an age on most developed systems.

I often design ship types specifically for invasion, cruisers specifically (early in the game I've used corvettes) which are heavily armored and packed with with invasion support modules. I mix a fleet of these among my more combat oriented fleets.

i assume you don't have the weapon for it... i don't remember the name but its not that far in the tech tree... its heavy and grants no military power but it grants 50 invasion power wich is mounstruous

If the ennemy has a fleet on the star system, you won't be able to take it. You have to be alone.

I've noticed it can seem (be?) buggy at times. I had 3 DN fleets (4 in each) parked at an enemy system for well over 20 turns with no progress on the invasion meter - all equipped with the last invasion tech (only one each ofcourse)

So yeah - expect it to be better later.

I noticed it takes around 2-6 turns in my games.. Perhaps it is special :P

I haven't picked up on troop numbers in ships or that there were specific ground weapons - thanks for all the advice.

I have special "battle fleets" and "pushing fleets" (dont know why I named them that way, but I did.. smiley: wink ).

Battle fleets have weapon systems and armor and all those shinannigans the best ones have an Admiral and look for fights in enemy territory. A few battle fleets purely consist of suicide boats (usually battleships or cruisers filled to the brim with beams/rockets/kinetcs nothing else) and defend the pushers from enemies that try to halt my progress and pushers have nothing but ground attack weapons and are usually cruiser type and with those I conquer systems rather quickly

edit: The Hero.. well I would strongly advise against bringing one. You don't have many and usually they are needed to fight of some onslaughts of a big fleet of the enemy. Using them to push over systems takes to long and seems to be a waste of talent. specialized fleets are rather cheap quickly built and more then up to the job

Bring a friend, that is quite good with taking stuff. In this case, a hero.

Have you tried putting on the support modules that increase "troop capacity" on ships? They seem to make the most difference

I'd really like to see a planetary/system invasion system, even if it was still something rather abstracted and simple like in GalCiv2. It would at least give you a tangible sense of progress and let you make choices that affected the outcome of invasions.
