I play a few systems style of play, having a high level admin in every one of those systems to start, and then switching over to a high level corporate later can be veryyyyyyyyyyy good. smiley: biggrin

Getting 4 clones of your level 16+ administrator hero before turn 50 means that you have more forge worlds than anyone else. What you do with that power base is of course up to you. But Horatio's powers are wrapped up in what they enable you to do rather than what the powers do for you.

It's a very powerful faction - when played well.

I don't know or hear that. I think they are the most powerful stock race. I even made my tutorial with them.

perhaps because they've evolved from a billionaire crazy person or because cloning is somewhat creepy unless you hand out cool helmets to the clones and send them off to fight as your clone army? smiley: smile

I'd put them at #2 behind the stock Hissho. But they are very solid.

I'm playing a customized Horatio game right now as a matter of fact, so the clones do have their fans.

It's not hate so much as... well the horatio aren't as good as the other factions.

I'd take extra FIDS or science or view of the whole map over the cloning of heroes (which are very limited in number).

I actually strongly beg to differ. You realize the Horatio will have a cap of 5 within the first 30 turns, and a cap of 11 at end game right? (most non-horatio players don't) That plus the ability to quickly switch between a full economic set and a full fleet set makes them very powerful and versatile. They have a bit higher skill requirement, since you need to know how and where to ply the strengths of heroes, but heroes are incredibly potent, and having both the flexibility and extra numbers in that area is very powerful if exploited properly.

abilities -wise aside , they do have a somewhat weird image. the extinction of such an abomination would not be missed in the galaxy.lol

Personally...I reckon Horatio just never met the right girl.

*shrugs*

And what would happen if the clones decided to have a civil war? Clones does not = they all think the same, and develop exactly the same interests and views. From an RP perspective the Horatio are ripe for trouble internally. And you can only make a copy of a copy so many times....it's like inbreeding. You need new genetic stock for Humans anyways. (Now if Horatio was gene splicing with the other species...)

Oh wow, side-tracking: just had a thought for a new faction, Hybrid Collective. (They don't destroy like the cravers, and don't replace like the sowers. Instead they're like the a Hive species that integrates others into their culture regardless of species, with the use of one of their glands? Kind of like the Killik form Star Wars mixed in with the Tau from WH40K.)

Sorry to get off track there. Don't hate the Horatio, just not fond of them story-wise. And twisted ships = a twisted mind. :P But 'they' he, is certainly an original to be sure.

Is this based on actual science? As far as I am aware assuming you have sufficiently advanced technology there is no reason why an infinite number of clones could be created from a single seed. Sci-Fi loves to use the dying ancient race of clones trope, but I do not believe it is based in any kind of solid science.

Endless science is irrefutable.

extra population capability tends to better than percentage bonuses on small and medium planet systems since less population = less fids on that system.

there up there in utility. and their traits although very mundane have potential and are deadly in the hands of a decent player.

i found that percentage gains are nice but having a bigger population cap tends to be better since technologies that benefit from population gain bigger bonuses. i somehow with a modestly sized Horatio empire made as much as dust as a similar sized united empire.

The problem with horatio, is that its a game of chance if they are good or not.

If they get shitty heroes to start with, ie...no administrator, then they suck.

I dont like that.

If you don't get good administrators, then focus on good admirals to even the odds.

I know what you mean, it's a bit along the lines of "well if they're so advanced then why couldn't they stave off extinction?". Perhaps it's that after continuously re-using genetic material there's no "fresh" stuff around anymore? I believ something like that happened to the Asgard from Stargate...
