I must say a lil sad that Digital hawk doesn't have that many votes. Everyone has their own interpretation of how the ships would look and I felt he had the right designs. I could see Panzer's models working very well too I might add. While I thought Vahouth's work was great, I felt it went over the top on the designs making them feel....over complex. I feel his artwork and modeling style would be PERFECT for a new faction of aliens not yet created and to go the path of massive ships that resembling more art and sculptures then ships. Something that really said "crazy alien architecture" with an artsy almost angelic body. But the Automatons were not the race I wanted to go that way.

These are my thoughts exactly as well... *Rubs mustache* every point.

Voted for Mr-Haitch. Such a nice and peaceful design. Is it possible now to buy these funny spaceships in IKEA?

Oh boy here goes, I'd better not make it a habit of checking this thread too much. oO'

Mr-Haitch no question!

Sputniks dude its fits the lore the most.

vahouths are pretty good too but imo its a little bit *to much* way to fat and warmonger like for the automatons.

Why thank you, its really what I was going for. II wanted a balance between peaceful craft that still wouldn't look out of place in warfare.

Voted for Bla0815's design. I really like how asymetcrial it looks.

Vahout's designs also look really automatonish.

I wasn't actually too sure if I should add his post or not. To be fair with the other submissions, all of them considered as original content, I will remove this choice.

They're all really creative designs. I'm always so impressed by the things this community comes up with.

But I think Mocrasar's concepts best capture the feel of the Endless Space in general and the Automatons in particular.

Its an interesting debate actually. The way I seen personally, a race of robots might end up designing their machinery to have similarities to themselves, especially if they developed completely in isolation, with only themselves as reference to draw on.

cough, cough maybe they will someday...

Haha! I think I just added insult to injury. smiley: stickouttongue

Anyway... I don't think that my ships look like gigantic flying Automatons really! Yes, they share certain similarities, but definitely not anatomical ones.

Thanks for your kind words sire, but about the clockwork/floating city feel, I don't see it work for ships smaller than Dreadnoughts. They are just too small. And though you described them as residence floating above the planet, I couldn't see them go to war with them.

Even so, about clockwork, yes I did that, with all those rings and cogs turning around clockwise or counter clockwise with a CLICK.

Also in my vision of the ships the living quarters are the rings themselves and that's more evident in both the transports I made. And those rings are platforms, but not always horizontal ones (it shouldn't matter in space anyway smiley: wink )

In the end I can see you had a very specific view for them and that's the path you took, but I had to make compromises between your lore and the artwork already available.

That's why I cannot see rectangular shapes work with them. If the Automatons were as you posted in your faction contest entry and saw your ships, I wouldn't even participate in this.

Know though that I love you man for creating this awesome race and if in the end my entry wins, you WILL HAVE to name them anew (if that's even possible) smiley: biggrin

I hope that too, but with a touch of crazy and unique. smiley: wink

No no, Thank you for your kind words haha. I can see why many people were for the discy shaped Automaton ships and more fluid designs since the Automatons were depicted with rings. But, as someone so awesomely said before, human ships look nothing like gigantic flying humans, and with the Automatons I always figured the platform ships where they lived were simply re purposed to be warships. They are reinforced with weapons and armor since the Automatons are a young race and have no real sense of standing armies like many of the other factions do. As for my designs being blocky, it is only because I am not very good at drawing curved ships; I'm trying to get into it, but i'ts quite a bit harder. I expected the hulls to have smoother curves especially around edges, but overall the "industrial" feeling of a flying platform, as well as the fact that it could potentially be a flying city(or town if that concerns you haha) before being re purposed, made me depict the ships as I did.

I have to admit though, your designs are very likely going to win, because they are original and most closely suit the "look" that the devs gave the Automatons versus what I wrote in the lore.

Thats not a bad idea, at least we will see what the studio thinks about how our actual designs should look. I would also like to hear from Amplitude what their favorite designs were (from individual devs) after the competition is over. Also, i would like people to know that i intended to make the ships look bulky, with straight cut lines and curves thrown in; a couplet of geometric shapes and more natural circles and curves. I made the ships seems to have a 'plate armour' feel to them because i thought that would explain the Automatons HP boost, which seems to couple very well with the armour upgrades in game.

Ps: The ships are also meant to be like platforms, a bit like Panzers designs. We seemed to reach an understanding of how they should look halfway through our design processes, of course, Panzer had already figured out what he wanted to do for his ships before the competition. Besides that, it fits the fluff.

Yes, just, yes, besides, whoever wins, they'll have a finished concept art, so in turn everyone wins because we get cool concept art haha.

Steph'nie, could it be possible after the top 3 have been picked that you guys at Amplitude Studios make a concept drawing based for each of the ones picked? This would be very nice so that we could better understand what the ships would look like in the game and would put each of the entry ideas on the same level for the final vote.

Also, it would be a very cool reward for the top 3 submissions to get a official concept drawing made from their idea, even if they never see the idea in game!

Voted for Mr-Haitch, I really like his entry! smiley: smile
