Current references in our society of Thanatos is euthanasia

I wanted him to be a character of contrast, combining the ambition of an Inquisitor-like character, the unquestionable devotion towards Horatio and his narcissistic nature. And "Death" is always around him whether that of the enemy or of Horatio followers which he sees the seeds of infidelity in smiley: biggrin

OK, here goes smiley: smile

Faction: Horatio

Name: Adonis Omega **-******-** (numbers?)

Biography:

Adonis is the result of a program using artificial wombs to infuse the effects of dust into Horatio.

This has allowed him to manipulate himself on a cellular level continually refining his biology and appearance in an effort to replicate the perfect being.

The infusion however has created an unstable and vainglorious being obsessed with becoming the pinnacle of his race viewing all others as aberrations of the glorious whole.

Class: Corporate/ Administrator (not sure what this means?)

Labour: 0

Wit: 9

Melee: 0

Offense: 0

Defence: 8

(Although again not entirely sure what this would entail. I envisaged a highly intelligent and manipulative bureaucrat adept at adapting to political circumstance and spying)…

O_o that kicks a lot of asses ! You even thought about such things for the lore ? I will repeat, seriously this time, what I've said : you should make an RPG with such great lore. It's just a shame to lose so much oppotunities to create interesting stories far away from the "save everyone" cliche.

And on a more philosophical note:

Heroes are different from the rest of their societies in their capacity to use Dust, the partially-sentient nanoparticles created by the Endless. To master it requires great emotional stability as well as a intimate knowledge of and control over one's own strengths and weaknesses. When a sentient being is 'infected' by Dust they generally end up dead or insane, as they are emotionally or physically incapable of absorbing and controlling it.

The effect of the Dust is particularly difficult for hive-like races or factions that suppress the individual identity within the group (Craver, Horatio, ...). The one who is affected is no longer one of a group and an entity whose character is based on their society, but a unique and different individual with enormous and unusual power. The odds of surviving this psychological tsunami is proportionally more difficult for these types of 'hive-mind' beings.

For all of these reasons, Heroes often become misfits in their previous lives and their own societies, and easily make the transition to being independent consultants (or mercenaries -- there is a fine line between those two in space).

So when Horatio 'offers' the 'gift' of Dust to a follower, it is not pure altruism, and might even be done to remove someone that displeases.

Does this give you some more inspiration? smiley: smile

Hi everyone,

I hope you like this slightly over-the-top faction. The moral of the story: Never let advanced technology fall into the hands of a wealthy, bored megalomaniac.

To answer some of your questions:

[LIST=1]
  • The faction

    - Horatio is still alive. While biology has not yet given the factions immortality, beings can live for centuries (which is close enough...)

    - The last name is not *only* random gibberish. It is system name - factory designation - batch code - unit number. More detail than that is hard to give, as the size of the factories, the frequency of production, the size of the batches, etc. can vary widely in the internecine race to create the most perfect Horatios.

  • The format

    - The 400-character limit should include spaces; if it slides over a bit no one is going to call the byte-count police.

    - Every Hero has two classes, and the five Hero Classes all have different trees and abilities. Because of that, there is no point in having Pilot/Pilot, for instance, as you would not get twice the Pilot 'power'. You are free, of course, to only spend points in the Pilot tree if they are Pilot/Administrator and you want them to be a fleet admiral (or vice versa).

    Here is my little contribution.

    Faction: Horatio

    Name: Vasco Telario-95-AE2489-12

Biography: Genial scientist, Vasco had progressively advanced through the Weapon R&D department hierarchy thanks to his dreadful inventions. Now leader of the biological department, he is currently working on his ultimate masterpiece: a biological weapon inducing mutations on other living beings to transform them into Horatio.

Another question : what happens to the copies which are not beautiful enough ?

I might have an idea for a hero but it must fit with the race...

Some characters of preceding votes only have one class. Is it really mandatory, or characters may have up to two classes?

    Faction: Horatio

    Hero Name : A1-81B1C-035 (Paragon)

Hero Biography: Created in phase one of Project Paragon, the 81B1C series were Horatio's favored lookalikes. Though Unit 035 certainly lacks the circumspection and grace of Horatio, he is still renown amongst loyalists and aesthetes as a beautiful and inspiring paragon. But sometimes beauty is a curse...

    Hero Image : n.a.

Hero Class : Corporate / Administrator (meaning Planet only ?)

    Labor - 3

    Wit - 3

    Melee - 3

    Offense - 0

    Defense - 0

(A "weak" hero for starters, he might be a bit "cheaper" than the other heroes. Paragon shows the limit of the used "Endless" technology. The A1 batch might be a good and exact copy in terms of looks but they lack the intellect and comprehension of complex affairs that made Horatio a space tycoon. Think of him as a future shallow pop-cultural phenomena that is used as a propaganda weapon smiley: smile )

    Alright, here we go:

    Faction: Horatio

Hero Name : Thanatos Nair-A1-10A009-01 (Don't have a list with all the systems so I'll just use Nair from the ES Galaxy map screenshot)

Hero Biography: Demonstrating discipline and pursuit for perfection at an early age Thanatos has always considered himself the pinnacle of Horatio’s creation. Over the years his devotion and ruthlessness would inspire both admiration and fear in people. Eradicating with fanatical persistence any sign of disloyalty among the followers, Thanatos will stop at nothing to see the approval in the eyes of the Creator.

    Hero Class : Administrator/Commander

    Hero Stats:

    Labor - 3

    Wit - 5

    Melee - 2

    Offense - 4

    Defense – 4

*The name is from the Greek Mythology, Thanatos is the son of the deities Nyx and Erebos.

The 400 characters limit, does it include spaces? I assumed it did in the first contest but want to be sure.

To add something. How are the serial-numbers made or are they just for now random gibberish?

There are some things I did not understand related to that new race :

    - Is Horatio still alive ?

    - Are Horatio(s?) immortal clones ?

    - How old is Horatio's empire ?

Hey by the way, if you have any background question to ask Slowhands on the Horatios to refine your biography before posting it out and make sure it's going the right way, don't hesitate to try a "summon dev" spell.

I'm sure he'll do his best to find answers to your questions! smiley: smile

    Name: Crebat Bedismet-J4-4ll-CK-0F7r4d-35

Biography: During the big annual celebration of Horatio a special batch of Horatios were created in Horatios honor. This years special was the batch most commonly known as "master of none". Needless to say they are extinct already with the exception of the one that remained. If its a quirk or anomaly in the production nobody knows but its use in any given situation is what makes this one especially valuable.
