Pointless to play MP, Redux.

I've posted about the horrible map making engine before, which I dealt with by continuing to play using "optimal" fair settings in my own games.

The issue now is that there are many hosts who have no clue or just don't care about map quality, and continue to generate maps which have zero f'ing point in playing on. Compound this with players who *just* *don't* *get* *it* about WHY it's useless to play on such maps, and a total waste of time for everyone involved, and you have a situation which is just not worth dealing with.

...I've expunged ES from my hard-drive for the time being. The game has a lot of potential, and is very polished in the areas it gets right, but the quality of MP matches is absolutely worthless. I really regret purchasing the game after having so much fun in SP from playing a friends copy, hoping that MP would be just as fun...how much I've learned.

Even when everything is miraculously "OK" with the map, then you have a glut of poor players who either abuse the weaknesses of the game mechanics or just simply don't know how to play and don't learn because really, how can you learn to play such a broken game when no-one else gives a damn to do what is right and host matches worth playing?

I'd love to argue, but I can see you won't listen. I do hope you come back when you believe the game has improved.

There is no argument to hear. MP is broken, period.

Some of the highest quality players I've had the pleasure of playing this game with have left for the same reasons long before I bit the bullet and decided to for myself. I was dedicated to making it work, but I'm f'ing done trying to manage it.

Thanks for playing, though.

There isn't such a thing as "optimal" fair settings. Some people just cook the settings to favor their strats.

The map generator isn't perfect but honestly I don't give a ♥♥♥♥. There are several strats which minimize the importance of the starting area and you would know that if you spend your time learning to play the game instead of whining about anything that doesn't fit YOUR idea about how the game should be played.

What's this magical strategy of yours, I'm sure we'd all love to hear it.

Here's the setup:

Your starting system is full of Gas Giants and Lava. All your surrounding systems are filled with crap planets, many of them with maluses, and you have two wormholes RIGHT to your home system, one of which leads right to the constellation of a militarist who happens to have a number of great planets, including a jungle with garden of eden. You could expand to a nearby constellation but it's being disputed by an amoeba who's already colonized the best system in it, one with 4 tier 1 plants, large to huge.

It's turn 20.

What's your strategy, genius?

Ah yes, praying to imaginary friends, quite the strategy. Hey, I guess it worked for Moses, right?

My strategy would be "oh well, can't win em all". Now let's see how long I can hold out.

You dont found your example in practise.if you have only crap planets and the others are in heaven then you have failed your expansion in earlygame.

Ahh but i forget, you prepare you every game with 2 systems verus the evil and overpowerd hissoh to not push him with your own systems...lol

Well i have played with synaptic a few times and unless he is ahead of everybody from start its rage quit time(usually accompanied by some sweet remark like" have fun newbs").He doesnt even wait till hwo the situation will be.

Which is wasting everybodys time, cause leaving a game of 4 or even 8 it makes the game less fair (ai near you= easy systems win).

That said,I think mp map could have an option to generate "fair" maps for mp , cause atm its very luck based if you win or loose.

And this translates imho into : i got my ass kicked many times and since im best they must have been doing osmehitng illegal."Abuse weakness of the game mechanics"? Lol its game mechanics and you use them to win.

This one time, i was in a synaptic game, and he says "if i get rushed before turn 40 i quit" we all had a good lol and i think he got attacked around turn 30 something, he quit couple turns later. Not everyone is just gonna let other play up their strengths for a long game with scientists 3 and such and such. Personally i dont want to wait 80 turns to have the same fights that can happen on turn 20.

Using a setup reliant on late game better be very lucky on starting neighbors and position, or have a plan to survive until they can overpower. It is as simple as any CCG like Magic or WoW cards (etc), either you are playing rush, or control. You choose control, i choose rush usually. If you live you can win.

*facepalm* Don't listen to Synaptic, I've played enough games with him to know he is just an impatient person. Hope you will learn to take your time, untill then: Goodbye! smiley: smile

i have no problem with the map engine. For me it is a challenge to win on different maps, with different races and different other players.

I can play on all settings, other map, other planets other strategie. No game is like the one before, i love this.

we all sit in the same boat, hows the problem?Sometimes you are lucky and sometimes you have bad luck.

The problem, as I've told you numerous times, is that not everyone wants to play a game that feels like it wants you to lose. If you want a game that can completely screw you over before you begin, then have fun. But 99% of the people here want a game that can generate a map where you feel like you win or lose by your own skill, not by the numbers on the dice.

I have no problem if amplitude implement this, but im not sure if it is so easy as you think based on the actual gameplay.what will you do on a small disc galaxy?

Its only my opinion, for me its a feature not a problem.

I have no idea what you're saying here.

You're also the first person I've ever heard with the gall to call game balancing a "feature."

Hows the problem?

Ive meand that it is for me not a problem if amplitude implement a "balanced" galaxy for everyone. But i have too, no problem with the actualy random galaxys.I said it before in a other thread, nobody her know actually if the gamesystem not creating startpoints based on a special pointsystem.Sometime i found only craplanets in my near, but my postion iss set very well in the galaxy.I have good heroes and my startsystem looks very well. But i dont test this, can some game creator make a statement about this?

it is really completly random?
