So yeah, Davea can't help you anymore in what you are doing, I have bit more (now that was understatement of year) knowledge of these things.
I got that line to work just by removing ALL s close to that line, there are more beautiful and easier choices but those takes more time.
Basically you can remove spaces infront of lines or try to find inside of that particular xml (always inside of xml, if you go outside game crashes) enough bytes.
Basically remember this simple and beautiful rule: always delete inside of particular xml file and as close to it as possible. Game doesn't care what you do as long as XMLs bytes are exactly correct.

hmmm, you do realize that unless they go compleltly rewrite xmls I can just copy and past what I have done so far over those xmls?
sure it might take bit longer, but then again changing couple hundred (if not thousand) lines should take longer than changing 1 or 2 values, shouldn't it?
Completly other thing is then that you openly go to say to me that something is IMPOSSIBLE when it's not only doable but also really easy to do.
If you wouldn't go out saying things like that I wouldn't call you substandard modder.
For example: "it's possible but can take some time" is better than: "it's impossible" since honestly, nothing is impossible:
- it's possible to make tech trees for factions
- it's possible to change faction images
- it's possible to completly rewrite how heroes act
- it's possible to completly rewrite race generation (actually I am doing it right now)
- it's possible to change how universe looks like
Heck, good modder (and I am not one) could easily change this game to tell story of mankinds history in some planet.
Yet when you go out saying that something is impossible hundreds gets this weird image that mods like Starwars, Startrek, Warhammer 40k and so on are impossible to do. (no, I am not doing those, I have quite a lot to do with learning how this game works and pushing those boundaries past).
If you really think that you are better than I am why haven't you pasted any codes and told how those works? You are telling to people how to change values but thats really what everyone should know already.
Why it was me who told how to make fleets bigger, why it was me who told how pirates works? You were in both posts faster than I was...
This is the thing, if you really would honestly live with this: "I have relased 3 mods, I am best" you would help others not by telling how to do something what others have already posted to that post but instead trying to find new information.

YEAH, i have really some questions, but not about modding, because there i mostly find my own ways.
Modding games i do many many years, but this is the first game, which make so stupid trouble.
My questions more about the game itselfs, because some things for me not really clear.
It does not need to be "either-or". One could be a good professional AND be nice to people. Being nice creates goodwill, and team spirit. Who cares about knowledge, if it's not shared?

What can I say? Everyone has to be good at something . But don't worry, it's not only on these forums... even my friends will have to quite often remind me of habits ^^
But think positivile, atleast when you see new person you can happily go to say "hi"... thats something what is never possible for me :/ (you know, instead of doing so I have to watch those persons and see how they behave wonder whether they would keep me as a intruder or not and so on)

I actually envy you, as you know your mods aren't really that great (coding wise) but still you get tens if not dozens to help you and tell you how they see game.
Instead me, well... my mod tries to break barriers and do something what others won't do for a while, yet what I get is 2 persons (I really appreciate iamgorys and iblises help) to suggest me things.

Regardless - been doing some digging of my own. Weapon/defence rebalance - check. Changing custom race picks - check. Changing fleet sizes and modifying tech to go with it - check. Will give you any help I can.

In my long life i played many games, but this here is the first, which is absolute stupid!!
A game like this MUST be moddable, or it isn´t good!!!
A bit you can, like changing values, but that is all.
Copy paste new lines in NOT work.
Okay, i wrote the lines new and made a correction that line numbers and bytes have the same as before i has changed the file.
Really, i make ALL correct, but game crashes and crashes!!!!
And the best is, it says not why.
I have a 10 years old game (Rise of Nations) and when it crashes after modding, it let me now WHERE the mistake is.
Long time i had all ready and played a game, but after 100 turns or so, game slow down so much that it no more was playable!! So i want give the game a second chance and try the last patch. But for the patch i must make all my changes again.
Is this really a game from 2012, because it looks more as one from the 80ies!!!
The only different is, the game needs a VERY powerful machine, but for what?!
I just deleted most of the both traits.xml files, opened game and didn't get any crash :P (and why I did that? well I basically am still rewriting those
