In the darkness of space, a lonely barren planet orbits a forgotten star. The planet was once a Terran utopia, and a prosperous civilization once ruled its surface. Their civilization may have ended millenia ago, but one of their creations, made for war but locked away for their own safety, still functions. Beneath the surface of an airless planet, a deep and sinister evil begins to stir, waiting to be released.

The Doom of Humanity: While the Empire continues to call it the Scourge, every species recognizes this terrible devastation as almost certainly a sign of the apocalypse. A terrifying fusion of consuming organism and relentless machine, The Scourge is some kind of semi-virtual virus that has the power to invade minds and the very cells of organisms, and reshape them at will. The virus spreads through the blood, making anyone suspected of being cut by or near one a possible victim of turning, becoming one of the Enraptured. The creatures spawned by The Scourge are relentless and unfeeling, but while they die with their cells, only the burning of anything they come into contact with will truly remove the virus. Any world touched by an invasion is instantly cut off from the rest, and planetwide quarantines are rigorously enforced.

The Scourge was found, oddly enough, by a Sophon exploration team searching a barren world orbiting a star that sat near the fringes of Empire space, but had not been colonized due to its barren nature and the lack of Endless remnants. The Sophons discovered ruins on the planet, and set to categorizing and studying as much as they could from the ancient culture before their curiousity had been sated. In the texts they deciphered, a mysterious warning against the releasing of a weapon came up, time and again. Being Sophons, they traced this warning back to a sealed entrance, locks and several apparent guard posts guarding the way. The door was sealed tightly, but the Sophons set to unsealing the chamber with lasers. Little could they know that the stasis chambers inside had long since broken down from decay, and something evil lay open inside. Upon entering the dark chamber, a small creature launched itself against the leader of the group. The leader was cut, and the beast ripped off and killed. Half of the Sophon team took the leader back to the ship, while the other half continued to scan the room on high alert.

What the half that remained in the chamber found upsetted them deeply. Other bodies lay strewn about several monitors and stasis tanks, but they made a shocking discovery. The bodies had been mutated, and the stasis chambers forcibly ripped open from the inside. The computer monitors were without power, but several ancient notes preserved for millenia within the airless room contained information about "the weapon" that was undergoing testing to see if it could be controlled, but the tests had failed before the project had been canned and the room closed off forever. Low on air, the Sophon team returned to their ship, expecting to share new information with their comrades. Instead, upon opening the doors the crew was attacked and several wounded by one of their team members. The crew was dead, but continued to operate, and against the landscape of a barren world, a lone Sophon ship took off.

First attempt, fire away. I'm thinking the rough timeframe will be about 50 or so years after the Carter's deployment. Just to give us some time to escalate the war, before this shakes things up. I'll make the Operation Snowfall page as soon as I can find the time.

Cool. I added some idea's to the idea board to try and break the ice around it. As soon as I finish my two pages, I will start on UUR ship concepts.

Incoming Draft.

The year was 3830, the UUR announced the Project "Terra". A terraforming project in the shape of a giant ship which would help supplement Terraforming of numerous planets in UUR, Ameoba, and possibly Sophon space. If the endless willed at least. Noted as a project to help strengthen diplomatic relationships. After several years of secrecy, the UUR's head engineering team on the project announced that the ship's prototype was ready. The tests on the prototype, "New Hope" projected that the ship would work as intended in helping to regulate the temperature of worlds marked for terraforming. In July of 3835, the team was ready to give a demonstration over a recovering Ameoba world. They had of course taken precautions, ran several tests to see if all had been in working order. The UUR was so confident in its pet project, that it had planned for news corps from across allied space to watch the first non practice run of the New Hope. Most of the journalist, and admirals at the event stayed aboard their own ships to watch the 'fireworks'.The world targeted was an Artic world with few real bodies of water. The plan was of course to change it to something more suitable. Targeting it to transform it into a 'Terran' class planet, the crew had to their horror ran into several flukes in the firing mechanism, as the firing process had begun, scientist rushed to attempt to correct the error that had presented itself. The 'guns' misfiring turning the surface of the planet into a pool molten slag along with the several hundreds of thousands of Ameoba. The UUR ships moved to capture and dock with the New Hope, however the New Hope's commander afraid of retribution made the jump outside of the system during the confusion.

Good, but I don't know about the guy jumping out of the system. Sure he would know his neck was on the line but there is no way anyone on board would follow that order. I'm thinking it would be better if he locked himself in the room that controls the firing mechanism and threatens to press it if anyone moves or doesn't give in to his demands.

Haha, UE create a super weapon that destroys world(? yes no? not sure now XD) while the UE create its counter part

That's a bit off from what we've though up of a renegade guy. XD But mainly, How did they perform several tests but it ends up failing anyway? Don't really get that XD

Why? It wasn't like he intended to do that, but running away sure makes it seem like he did, They're not going to forgive him that way lol. And why did the amoeba stay on the planet anyway? Wouldn't it be safer either way if they went into space to watch it happen?

Let's see:

The year was 3830, the UUR announced the Project "Terra". A terraforming project in the shape of a giant ship which would help support the terraforming of numerous planets in Allied UUR, Ameoba, and Sophon space. The project was laundered as a testament to good will and the future of terraforming (secretly the UUR had established the project to try and have an edge over the Sophons after the Schism incident). After several years of secrecy, the UUR's head engineering team on the project announced that the ship's prototype was ready. The tests on the prototype, "New Hope" projected that the ship would work as intended in helping to regulate the temperature and atmosphere of harsher climate planets.

In July of 3835, the team was ready to give a demonstration over an Amoeba world rendered uninhabitable during a UE invasion. They had of course taken precautions, and the ship had gone through various maintenance tests to prove it was sound. The UUR was so confident in its pet project that it brought in several news corporations from across allied space to watch the first non practice run of the New Hope. Most of the journalists and admirals were invited aboard the Cruiser Titarius, so as to present a better view of the proceedings. The world targeted was a cold Arctic world with few real bodies of water. The plan was to alter its atmosphere dramatically through cloud seeding and applying thermal lasers to the ice caps to begin the process of defrosting of the planet. -from here on this is all my own- Unfortunately a single oversight in the background checks crew would lead to the project's downfall.

The Head Maintenance Technician was a man lauded for his excellent work on several UUR ships and his time served as a UUR marine. What they failed to account for was his connections with a certain ex-wife that was found murdered in her apartment not a week earlier. The head staffer did not know how strong the connection was between him and his wife of ten years, who had left him due to his rather ferocious dedication and so approved him for work on what he called his "greatest endeavor".

The Technician had strung together hidden explosives placed in key locations around the ship. Everyone on board was too excited by the fruits of their labour to notice when he slipped into the central engine chamber and set up the broadcast screen that he had left there. Before the eyes of dozens of officials and reporters, he announced "my name is Alex Porrier Gataver, and I have given my life for the United Universal Republic" For 5 seconds there was nothing but confused silence, and then the explosion hit. The New Hope was instantly crippled, killing dozens of the crew and stranding several others in the quickly deteriorating ship on its dive towards the planet's surface. It didn't even make it into the atmosphere as the engine reached overload and the ship blew up into a cascade of shrapnel. Onlookers could only watch from the Titarius, stunned at the sudden loss of such a great UUR project.

My version of the ending, though I'm not sure if it's the best it could be.

You kind of killed off the idea before it started haha. Whats the schism incident anyway? but how did the head technician plant the explosives without any of the crew noticing XD. And was he a marine or a ship engineer? I'm not sure its easy to do both smiley: stickouttongue

The Schism Incident was what started the whole war to begin with.

But yeah, how could one technician sneak enough explosions to blow up an entire cruiser on board a ship without anyone noticing? You'll have to go into mroe detail about that :P

I think that if have the incident happen like that, there should be some form of aftermath, diplomatic or otherwise, like the amoeba distancing themselves from the UUR.
