Mississippians Community Event

The da Vinci Event may be over, but we’ve got more in store for you with the Mississippians Community Event starting today. Switching things up a little, this event does not feature individual challenges, but instead pools the contribution of all our players towards unlocking a special reward for everybody: A new culture to be added to the game, the Mississippians!

As you might be able to guess from their name, the Mississippian culture flourished along the banks of the Mississippi and its tributaries, establishing numerous chiefdoms between the 9th and 17th century. Their influence extended across much of the south-eastern part of the present-day United States, but they are nonetheless sometimes called Cahokians after one of their biggest and most influential settlements. At the heart of these settlements lay a public plaza with monumental earthen mounds, with structures ranging from grain silos to temples constructed on top of them, given these flat-topped pyramids great cultural and ritual significance.

This event will run from today May 25th to June 9th, and since the Mississippians are well-known for their earthworks, this challenge is all about construction, counting the Builder Era Stars all of our players collect. It doesn’t matter which culture you’re playing, if you’re using mods, or the Bolivar beta. Just build your beautiful cities and collect those era stars!

On your way to unlocking the Mississippian culture, we also have some other rewards in store for you:

  • 500 000 Builder Stars: A wallpaper pack with the culture art for the Mississippians... and maybe more

  • 1 000 000 Builder Stars: The Soundtrack for the Mississippian culture

  • 2 000 000 Build Stars: The Mississippian culture unlocked in the game

All unlocked rewards will become available with a future update and be free for everyone who owns the game. You can check progress on these rewards at any time by checking the Humankind Games2Gether homepage, which will update regularly.

Knowing how passionate our players are, we’re sure you’ll reach these goals easily. So, have fun building your grand cities!

throwing in my two cents, it's hard to work up the motivation to play a bunch of games to contribute builder stars so we can all unlock the new culture, when the mere news that a new culture might be added is making me wanna wait until the culture gets unlocked before i play. For games like Humankind and Civ, I get burned out pretty easy so if im gonna play a game im gonna wanna wait until i can play with the new stuff, rather than getting burned out on the game just before it comes out. Maybe if future events like this allowed players to play with the unlockable culture in a limited capacity during the event, and it only stays unlocked if the goals are achieved, then this event would feel more motivating. Maybe if after 1.5M builder stars we temporarily unlocked the Mississipians for the rest of the event, and then at 2M we get to keep it unlocked after the event ends?
That seems like the system I'd like best personally, but idk about others. As is, I do think I'll hop on to play a game before they unlock, since the Bolivar beta is out. That way it feels more like trying out the new beta, rather than doing a chore like it'd otherwise feel like :/

Strongly agree with this idea. Having the chance to play with the culture-to-be-unlocked during the event would be a great incentive to participate in the event, and would add a layer of novelty to it, making the objectives easier to achieve.

With average peak players of 2000 per month in Steam we are required to earn 2 000 000 builder stars in two weeks.

That would be 1000 stars per one player.

Or 71 stars per day.

With 18 stars maximum at one game, it is required to have 4 full games daily to achieve this unlocks.

C'mon! This is ridiculous.

Individual unlock for 18 builder stars will be much more reasonable.

Again, we have checked the data and the number, even if it look like "impossible" , it is more than doable to achieve ^^

Doable is one thing but it actually being done is another, and after it's failed once already I think people are/will be less eager to invest their time into something that might not pay off at all. Nor should they have to. Just the perception of it being impossible is kind of a bad thing.

Would love to see Indonesia culture or our old South East Asia culture around Indochina team period , anyway that period of time I think is too short for that many stars :(

I devoted many hours to this event. Actively played, getting building stars, but did not receive any reward at all. This is very upsetting. What can be changed and is it possible to get what I deserve?

Because this was a marketing action, not a real competition, and there's a good portion of community that decided to tailor the experience to their liking with mods. It's great to see Amplitude showing their approval in this regard that way and it's good to see that there was no asshole willing to waste their time to ruin the whole event in the way you described.

I don't care what you think you're being, you spent your last few posts here just raining on everyone's parade and now came up with hypothetical without any evidence whatsoever - and it should be easy, just go to mod.io and find the cheat-the-stars-in mod, I had no luck finding it, tho - just to further downplay anyone who had fun with the event and felt happy about achieving the goal.

If there are no mods that make gaining stars free than thats good. Means that my argument/prediction was wrong and everyone is more or less on the same level. I just dont understand why mods were permitted despite their clear potential to essentially just give people the stars for free instead of earning them.

It just dropped! Along with a new DLC: Cultures of Latin America.

Well played, GroxInvader.

It's a weird sentiment because it doesn't really take skill or effort to earn builder stars in the first place, it only takes patience. All I did was just...not advance an era until I had all 3 builder stars. Boom, every game I played earned max stars toward the event. I also decided to dedicate some games to farming builder stars for the event, but all I did differently for those games was lower the difficulty a little and increase the game speed a little.

"Patience is the mother of all virtue" had me convinced that it takes effort in being patient. I'll admit that I did the same (lowered difficulty, toyed around with the settings to stack the deck in my favour, and change my playstyle to maximize the number of builder stars), which requires guessing what collection of settings would have me get the most stars the fastest while not being too boring to play. And that sounds like some kind of skill/effort relative to choosing good game settings or trying something new/different. Note that poor settings choice can make any 4X unenjoyable, so this is valuable experiments for both players and devs.

negative nancy, no. But I do try to be as Pragmatic as possible. By using mods, it more or less makes actually playing redundant, why spend a bunch of turns working for stars when you can just mod it to be a 1 click and done thing, sure it definitely helps the grind of collecting stars better, but at the same time, it cheapens the event, as those stars were earned by effectively cheating. Theres a reason other games and even Amplitudes previous games disable achievements and events when mods are in use.

Is it actually cheating tho? I don't know how many player actually use mods and are actually familiar with them. Devs tried to get people to try out mods through the map making challenge and other promotion of the modding feature. Allowing people to mod their games specifically for this event sounds like motivating people in learning how to mod and how to install and use mods. And that requires some work & effort from the players. And this is while there's an upcoming update (and thus an available beta) that adds some quality-of-life feature when using mods (again, incentivizing people to try it out).

I feel there was a reason the event was so permissive; the time and effort put into making the challenge easier is in itself part of the challenge in my book.

Were mods also allowed? I'm sure I saw a text somewhere saying mods were allowed for players.

It's in this very blogpost: "It doesn’t matter which culture you’re playing, if you’re using mods, or the Bolivar beta.", so yeah, must have helped a lot.

Then its safe to say that a number of these stars may not be earned, as there may be a mod or edited file that makes earning stars, like builder stars insanely easily with no skill or effort put into it.

That's more likely, considering this ^ devpost.
