Mississippians Community Event

The da Vinci Event may be over, but we’ve got more in store for you with the Mississippians Community Event starting today. Switching things up a little, this event does not feature individual challenges, but instead pools the contribution of all our players towards unlocking a special reward for everybody: A new culture to be added to the game, the Mississippians!

As you might be able to guess from their name, the Mississippian culture flourished along the banks of the Mississippi and its tributaries, establishing numerous chiefdoms between the 9th and 17th century. Their influence extended across much of the south-eastern part of the present-day United States, but they are nonetheless sometimes called Cahokians after one of their biggest and most influential settlements. At the heart of these settlements lay a public plaza with monumental earthen mounds, with structures ranging from grain silos to temples constructed on top of them, given these flat-topped pyramids great cultural and ritual significance.

This event will run from today May 25th to June 9th, and since the Mississippians are well-known for their earthworks, this challenge is all about construction, counting the Builder Era Stars all of our players collect. It doesn’t matter which culture you’re playing, if you’re using mods, or the Bolivar beta. Just build your beautiful cities and collect those era stars!

On your way to unlocking the Mississippian culture, we also have some other rewards in store for you:

  • 500 000 Builder Stars: A wallpaper pack with the culture art for the Mississippians... and maybe more

  • 1 000 000 Builder Stars: The Soundtrack for the Mississippian culture

  • 2 000 000 Build Stars: The Mississippian culture unlocked in the game

All unlocked rewards will become available with a future update and be free for everyone who owns the game. You can check progress on these rewards at any time by checking the Humankind Games2Gether homepage, which will update regularly.

Knowing how passionate our players are, we’re sure you’ll reach these goals easily. So, have fun building your grand cities!

I see the same thing. Connected to G2G, the "event" button appears on the main UI but is disabled. (On the Bolivar Beta.) So I'm unsure if I'm contributing to the event or not.

So, if community doesn't reach the goal then you'll just scrap the work you've done on this culture??

Ooh, unlockable cultures is a novel idea!

Unrelated, I'd love to see Malaysia join the game in one respect or another (I'm a history novice, so I may be unaware of significant existing cultural ties, mind).

Unlockable culture?

So you've came up with, designed, and implemented a playable culture, but won't actually release it into the game unless the community as a whole accomplishes an arbitrary amount of in-game activity?

Your game is already failing because of completely nonsensical design ideas that were seemingly implemented just to deviate from the norm, and now you're spending developer time on content that might not even be playable.

If you have an idea for a piece of content that would make the game better, be it a culture, building, or a new game-mechanic altogether, do not hold it, but patch it into the game right away!

Get a grip.

This development philosophy has always made me scratch my head.  My assumption is that they'll eventually release all of this content in one form or another, but in the meantime they're just sitting on finished content without giving the players a chance to use it (or a chance for Amplitude to make money off of their work - for example, they already spent the money to make the Wang Zhenyi persona but they currently aren't earning any money from that development expense by releasing it as a promotional tool or as a paid DLC).  Granted, this is not a new concept for Amplitude (they have done similar things for ES2 in particular), but before the release of Humankind these types of events were relatively uncommon.  As I have said before, it seems like a better idea is to add permanent achievements to the game and have this challenge content be unlockable as a reward for completing the achievements.

Don't suppose Stadia is included in this?

Probably once again not. I really start to hate this game more and more because of how the stadia platform is treated. We paid the same, but are not equal.

Ah well, back to Cities Skylines then! (Although not the same, but it's at least a building game)

Well hold that thought. It looks like we are included?

According to steamdb, there are always more than 1000 concurrent players, the peak for today is at 1500. Let‘s assume that there are 1250 players playing on average at all times. I estimate that each player unlocks a builder star every 10 minutes, so that‘s 6*1250 stars per hour, and 180‘000 per day. I admit that the 1 star per 10 minute could be off, it depends heavily on how many people play blitz or endless speed, and how fast the players take their turn. I may be a tad too optimistic, and it’s more like 4 per hour. So, I don‘t think the 2M stars are far out of reach, but maybe they aren‘t a goal that is automatically achieved.

With average peak players of 2000 per month in Steam we are required to earn 2 000 000 builder stars in two weeks.

That would be 1000 stars per one player.

Or 71 stars per day.

With 18 stars maximum at one game, it is required to have 4 full games daily to achieve this unlocks.

C'mon! This is ridiculous.

Individual unlock for 18 builder stars will be much more reasonable.

To everyone who is skeptical about how doable this is, the community already has 63k stars on the event. It would take about 135k/day to ensure the 2M stars. We're already half way to that figure for today.

Also, it's incredibly easy to cheese this one. Remember, using influence to build resource extractors and harbors in territories counts toward stars. Merchant cultures help reduce the influence cost, as well. Go wide, go merchant, and use that influence!

For the Lunar New Year Event, we were on tracks until the first week-end, then it drastically dropped. The next week-end was double-star earned, but it wasn't even enough to gain what was required daily to reach the goal.

And it was easier to cheese every stars (reload a turn where you gain 3-5 stars - same with launch a game for the Amplifeid event, launch and don't play) than only builder ones.

I'm one of these players for who a single game takes dozens of hours, so... no more than 18 stars from me this time.

@DragonGaming That is actually not fair on Humankind. Endless Space 2 is only available on Steam, while Humankind is distributed on multiple platforms, including Stadia of which we already heard about in this thread.

In essence you are not seeing all active Humankind players currently by just browsing the Steam charts.

The events themself are a grind, that is evident.

Yes, but keep in mind that the collection rate will not be uniform and that we're in the middle of peak hours.  User counts also vary depending on the day of the week.  Not saying that we definitely won't make it, but it's hard to arrive at a stars/hour rate for these events.

Which sort of highlights how much of a grind these timed events tend to be.

Plus, these events aren't even working, their intended role is mostly to keep player retention, well just now, the steam charts show that ES2 has more active players than Humankind, to go from having 55k players at launch to being beaten by a game that's 6 years old that's made by the same company is not a good sign, meaning that something needs to change.

Couldn't  you stop making useless community event and just focus on fixing and updating..?

It's terrible to see that events are made monthly, but the game is still defective.

I tried to play at least one game, but it' too similar with my first humankin experience so it's too boring.

Seriously, what we need is more update. Not this endless events
