What kind of posts are being put up?

So far just discussion about the released screenshots (English Channel and the Germany-Viking battle one so far), such as daring viewers to try to count how many cultures are visible and how to best siege a Nubian-Carthagian-Viking city.

I'm not on Twitter much either, but we're trying to condense the information.

Thanks for the articles. I'll go ahead and put up a TLDR for them regarding new stuff, as well as commentary.

First, the new screenshot:

Man, that's pretty, although I can't tell where the city "borders" are. Will there be an option to turn off all menus and interface for a bit so you can just enjoy this beauty occasionally? Please?

Now for the meat of the first article:

  • In prehistory you can see the small animals wandering at your people's feet, you can either absorb other people or build up your own food (I think this is knowledge vs food), and you can delay founding your first city to get more bonuses.
  • Nubians get money bonuses.
  • "Amplitude has built a clever modular system that combines patterns and paints procedurally, so that you can tell a country’s path through the past at a glance."
  • One of the chinese cultures builds rocket carts, and the Roman unique unit is called the Praetorian Guard.
  • Previous game's battles were more automated, but the developers said the fans wanted more tactical battles, so they are delivering.
  • There are 21 stars to gain in each era, and you can make the time to gather as many as possible instead of rushing ahead. (2 things about this, first this implies that this is a per-culture basis since otherwise an 8 player game could have no one with enough stars, and second, this casts some doubt on the number below the culture's symbol [1670 in the screenshots of Germany] being fame, although I suspect that stars just give something like 100 fame points.)
  • Romans and Mongols are examples of cultures that have contended for the title of "winner" even though they are weaker this era due to being famous in earlier eras.
  • We will get markers along the road explaining how famous we are even if we've lost territory, and we just need to "survive the last age and make sure we’re still talking about you at the end.” (This implies that elimination is still possible.)
  • "It’s Amplitude who, at the conclusion of a game, will pick out the triumphs to remind you of—chronicling your path through the world in a way that leaves you proud."
  • Archaeology will be a thing, such as digging up a razed city. (Perhaps this gets you more fame when it's your former culture you are digging up?)

The second article is a bit older and so doesn't have anything new except for one thing at the end: "When pushed for information on it developers hinted that you can easily find yourself in a World War One type situation where a smaller skirmish unravels, expanding across the map through reinforcements and additions until it engulfs half the world – and that is exciting."

Does this mean that you can only make a certain number of battle moves each turn and that not only can you bring in reinforcements like in Endless Legend but doing so will also expand the area in which the battle takes place? This sounds interesting, and I want to hear more.

Thanks for the synopsis Dinode, picked out the key points and a few things i missed. I too am curious about the example of World War One of how the battle spreads, gonna be curious how modern era ships/power effect these battles as well.

One thing i may have picked out in that screenshot... On the far end of the peninsula,  is that a Carthaginian Harbor? Example below:

Looks like it may have a bit of east Asian flavor with that tower

I thought it was just a drydock of sorts at first, but you are right that it appears to be Carthaginian in origin. There are also a lot of sloped roofs from east asia in other buildings, not just the tower.

Seems like there may be different "stages" of docks? there are ones with just a pier, and pier with a tower, and then the big shipyard.

I also see 3 different boats, one of which is a galley. Place seems very lively between all the buildings and little fishing boats.

That new screenshot is gorgeous.  Those are the coolest looking ships I’ve seen in a 4X by a country mile.

Man, they really are making this their baby, just putting everything and more that they can envision. I can definately respect the risk they are taking bringing in those darker aspects, as there are groups that will take offence. If they pull this game off right, it really is going to make a mark on the genre.

I'm encouraged by this part:

"Clearly we don't want to say, 'Hey, slavery, really efficient, gets that industry cap up,' that's not what you want to do," says Spock. "But sadly that's why it existed. How do you balance that? How do you make that choice? What gameplay social consequences vs industrial political consequences do you try to build in?"

Setting aside this particular topic and the considerations that come with it, the idea that HK may try to marry positive consequences now with negative consequences later suggests the potential for interesting choices. We saw something similar with one of the events, too, where choices made could have future consequences.

I have to admit I wasn't too hyped for this game at first but the more I've read and the more I've looked into it the more excited I get, I think this game has great potential...not only as a game but as a way for people to evaluate how critical some choices in Human history have been and how things may have shaped up differently if we had walked different paths. It's going to be a really fascinating thought experiment as well as a game to play. Thank you for this thread as it will definitely help keep information easily accessible.

Will November be the month we get more significant info? One can only hope...

Not trying to rush the devs or anything as I'd much prefer a slow and methodical development process to a hurried, half finished release. But it's hard to be patient considering the potential of this game!
