they both look really similar i'm wondering. do all the different types have differ things? idk how each culture is different in game

You don't need to do anything, that happens automatically.

Also for militarist and expansionist: I  need to explain how the affinities (militarist, expansionist, agrarian, etc.) work first (if you already know that, I apologise). Every affinity a) gets a special ability shared with all the other cultures of that affinity and b) will get the era stars, and thus fame, easier. So the scientist affinity will get a special science related ability and get the science stars easier.

Then for the militarist vs expansionist dichotomy: one is for fighting, the other is for expanding. So they'll have abilities that will stimulate these respective activities and will get era stars around those subjects easier. The militarist ability has been released already: they get to turn citizens into militia armies to provide extra troops. The expansionist ability hasn't been announced yet.
