Hey there,

So I've played both betas, and after the stadia open beta I had the question of size of maps lingering in my head. When i played the stadia open dev i thought that the map was relatively small for the 3 civs. So im curious did stadia release any info about map sizes? Will there be a possibility for the map to be absolutely gigantic? By gigantic i mean, if they make a world map of earth and it's literally the biggest size, will the geographical landmass of say spain or italy consist out of 4-5 provinces? Or just 1-2? That's what i mean by gigantic. Because it just feels like the map was really small for the open dev. Also did they say the game will be fully optimized for modders to mod the living poop out of it?

Thanks y'all for the infos :D

If I recall correctly, our smallest maps are about the same size as the smallest maps in Civilization 6, while our biggest map sizes are a bit bigger than the biggest maps in Civilization 6, but the territory system affects how this feels. Our largest maps are quite large, but I don't think they are large enough for a map at the scale that the Iberian Peninsula would have four or five regions.

REgarding your other question, we do want to offer mod support, but we are not ready to talk about the details yet.

Sweet! Thanks for the response!

Out of curiosity then, what size would the open beta on stadia have been by comparison to lets say a civ 5 or 6 map size? And is the engine the game built on capable of supporting even bigger maps than what you currently have available?

Thank you :D

On especially large maps, will there be an easy way to get "Driving Directions" to where you want to screen over to?  Eg. A Google Maps icon?  In a Earth like scenario, given the actual size of Earth - that's huge is it not?  Will there be bookmarking of specific screens?  Eg. Starting Screen.  I imagine it could get easy to get lost in the beautiful artwork on an unfamiliar world - that's why I ask.  Zooming out to Zoom in is a possibility, if region colored is obvious.  Also, figuring out - at a glance which territories have units belonging to you or others could be important, if that could be included too?

I think you can skip to cities by looking through your city list.

@Progress I can only refer to OpenDev here and in OpenDev I did miss having like a minimap of the wrold for faster getting to a unit or a specific location. As zooming out and moving across the world and then zooming in again is the one thing I found could be a bit slow in Humankind (other than that the game ran fine and pretty fast), not to mention it gets tideous after a while. To get to specific armies You can of course click on the icon almost at the top right and get like a list of Your groups of units, "armies" or "regiments" (or whatever you want to call them), click on a specific unit in an army/regiment and get to it. That works when not having too many armies/regiments of units. However I can imagine even that becomes a bit tideous further into the game when have a lot of armies/regiments spread out and You end up clicking on the wrong ones and not sure which one You're acctually looking for. There might have been other ways to navigate around the map, like the skip to cities that @Eulogos is refering to, but it's a few months now since the first OpenDev so it's possible I have forgotten some other way. Also no way to test it as even this last Stadia Phase of OpenDev is now over.
