You know I think Humankind may end up being a better game than Endless Legend - which is a great game, but has a lot of confusing and sometimes overwhelming eccentricities. Like Mogwar, we move slow unless our support unit has a round to cast blood lust. Or the cultists who are kind of terrible except sometimes they overwhelm a continent and it's ... yeah, over whelming. I really hope the "Hoard" factions can find a nice balance. But the simpler unit properties the lack of ... these layered balance mechanics to offset weakness or exploit them could really make the game a lot more satisfying to pick up and play. Tactics come into it, but, you don't have to track seventeen different exceptions or strange theming decisions (I'm looking at you fungal faction with ... cavalry?).
I'm also starting to wonder if the excessive number's we've been seeing in the early access testing are part of a larger equation. Like scaling is something they do pretty well. So these totals we're seeing in cities that are ridiculous now - might be something they are trying to calculate / experiment with ahead of the modern era. Scaling back EQ and Districts might be more feasible or even easier for them if they have those numbers now for potential late game scaling.
