Sorry if the question sounded weird, just wondering how exactly time will work? I don't know if this question has already been asked, but I was curious how will time mechanics work. I recently discovered this game, and it looks amazing from what I've seen. This question just popped up in my head because I've played Civ 6, and I think it's something like 1-2 years per turn? Will it be similar, or will there be a different system?

So far from what I've seen, (been following this game since 2019) there doesn't seem to be dates in this game.  On the bottom right of the screen it tells you what turn it is, but I've never seen a place either in videos, or the opendevs (beta) where the year is formally displayed.

The game starts in the Neolithic period, where your units are basically cavemen/hunter gatherers, and is suppose to end somewhere around present day.  in the opendev it seemed like eras lasted roughly 20-30 turns, with Neolithic lasting 5-15 in most cases.

Every era (except Neolithic) has 7 categories of era stars, they are basically mini objectives, such as, get x amount of money.  Each category can give up to 3 stars, and once you get 7 stars you can advance to the next era.  Doing so unlocks the next era’s technology.  Yes you have to be in an era to unlock its technology, unless you’re a science civ then you can unlock the technology from an era ahead of where you are.

Every time you change era you get to pick a new civ.  There's a list of all of the known playable civs on reddit, titled "Humankind Culture List V2"  It's pinned to the top of the Humankind reddit page. so far they've announced every civ up to and including the Industrial era, approximately 1840.

I'd highly recommend looking up YouTube videos of the Lucy opendev, it's the most recent beta, if you want to get a feel of what this game is like.

One note from a fellow Civ player, this game feels really good, and is very similar to Civ, but the combat takes a little while to learn, terrain really really matters, and the difference between winning and losing battles often comes down to if you can attack from the high ground, or get them to attack you from across a river.  I personally love it, within minutes of playing an opendev they had in the summer, I started having the kind of fun from combat, I only get playing old total war games, but I get the feeling it's not going to be for everyone.

Oh ok, thanks for the explanation, I'm still getting used to this games mechanics and can't wait for the games release.

No problem, sorry for giving such a long reply, but I love talking about this game.  Feel free to ask any other questions, I or someone else in this wonderful, wonderful community would be more than happy to answer them.
