1. How does trade routes work? Is it like EL where you build a building and it creates a route for you?

2. How do luxury resources work and strategic resources work? Do certain unit require a certain amount of a strategic resource to be build or is it if you have one horse you can make unlimited horsemen? Do luxuries have booster affects like EL or is it more like ES2 (which I really disliked ES2 Lux system for this, sorry amplitude.)?

3. Can we rename or pick a name for our nation at the beginning of the game? Picking cultures is cool, but since we are making a civilization we should be able to name it in my opinion.

4. How does slavery work in this game?

5. For emperies that have different views, cultures, etc when you conquer a city can you say hover over a pop and see that pops views, religion, etc?

6. Is there hero's or general to lead armies?

7. Is there going to be espionage on release?

8. Well this game have QoL fixs that both EL and ES2 kind of needs. Such as getting notification when nations go to war or make peace. Also when you make a alliance is it going to be better than ES2? I hate in ES2 that your alliance can be like "we are making peace now" with no input from you. I hope this is fixed in Humankind.

That all, but if I think off more ill add it.

1. You have to diplomatically ask to trade luxuries/everything, once that is done, you can buy luxury resources (or strategics if you trade everything). Buying a resource automatically makes a traderoute from the resource extractor all the way to the closest city.

2. You need to possess X strategic resource extractors/trades to make unlimited horsemen (Although each one of them will cost you a population). Luxuries have a passive effect here, they boost some yields and give some happiness (called stability here) if you have at least 1.

3. You empire name is supposed to be your name, somewhat like in EL and ES2.

4. You can, uhhhh... force populations to buyout things, else there is a civic where you can choose to either gain population from ransacking(razing things) or gaining more industry from specific quarters.

5. I don't think that is the case, you can see how other cultures affect your cities in the specific screens.

6. No heroes. Combat system is simplified from EL.

7. Espionage was not shown in the OpenDevs, I don't think it was even mentioned anywhere so far, so I would not expect it on release.

8. Diplomacy is done differently from the two, there are alliances but so far only you wage war on your own. There is also vassalage, where you can conquer someone and force it upon them. That way you take control of all their resources and they pay you.

1:  I’m not completely sure how trade routes work, so I’m not going to comment on that…

2:  The way you acquire resources is like in Endless Legend, the resource is part of your province and you build a artisans quarter, basically an extractor to get it.  Luxury resources give an empire wide bonus such as coffee gives plus stability, but there are no boosters, that I’m aware of.

2.5:  The way strategic resources work is; for example chariots need 1 horse and 2 copper to be built, but once you have the 1 horse and 2 copper you can build as many as you want.

3:  We can rename cities… In the opendev I didn’t see a way to change empire name.  It looks like the way we will differentiate players is by:  Their avatar name, their color, and their logo.

4:  Slavery works very similarly to Civilization 4; you sacrifice population to rush production.  You need a tech to start using the mechanic, and there is a policy somewhere that gives you population by ransacking your opponent’s land.

5:  There’s a mapmode for this, one for culture, and one for religion.

6:  No, it’s not like EL where you have a hero leading your army to glory.  There’s talk about requiring generals, to form an army, but that would simply be to restrict the number of armies a faction can wield.

7:  There is a spy type unit, I think it was called saboteur, but I didn’t test it extensively in the opendev so I can’t say anything about it.

8:  I’ve never played ES…  The notifications seem ok, but not great.  They let you know when someone picks a new culture, they let you know when your city grows, but I don’t remember if they inform you about other nations going to war, my memory is that it does.

8 continued:  As for nonconsensual diplomacy; you get an exclamation point over a nation’s icon if they want to talk to you.  The only nonconsensual diplomacy I’ve experienced is the trading of resources, but I think this is because it’s handed globally rather than individually.   There are 3 trade options in diplomacy, 1 to not trade anything, 2 to trade luxuries, 3 to trade luxuries and strategic resources.

As for QOL, this seems slightly better than my very limited experience with EL.  They did say there is going to be mod support, so I’m hoping anything missed in the base game can be added through mods.

If you want to see the game there’s tons of video’s on YouTube from the last opendev(beta) titled Lucy opendev.  My rule of thumb for any product is don’t make purchasing decisions based on the promise of updates, but based on what it is at the time of release, with updates simply being a nice bonus.

So wait do I only need one Lux resource to get a bonus or is there a point to have more than one copy? Also endless space 2 had the concept of diplomatic pressure which was a interesting idea. I wonder if that is in humankind cause when I saw one video I did not see it in the UI. Also I do hope they add the feature to change the name. Cause when someone interacts with you from the opendev video I saw, it shows your name and your current nation name.

The yield bonuses of multiple luxuries stack together with the exception of +stability.

For example... If an empire had three (3) total dye extractors within their boarders, each city would gain +15 industry and +5 Stability total.

Diplomatic pressure is present in Humankind but called influence. Gaining influence over a territory part of another empire does not flip it, but does provide diplomatic grievances, causes stability issues (osmosis events), and (I believe) increased money generation with the aesthete affinity. Trade routes can also spread a culture's influence...

The Luxury system in Humankind looks amazing. Now I really can't wait to get this game and play online the first day with my group.
