I have a couple of questions, discussions, ideas etc. that some people might be interested is. Any reply is welcome.
Questions:
1.Will there be more units in the first four eras than what we saw in Lucy OpenDev? Not complaining about the amount that were their but it would be interesting if there were more.
2.How much roleplay exists in-game? This is specifically aimed at me and people who enjoy roleplaying in games, but, how much roleplay is there? The game is marketed with the idea that 'it's your story' which seems good, but is that actually true.
3.Do volcanoes erupt? I saw a couple of screenshots of the game which had volcanoes in them. Can these erupt or do anything at all or are they just scenery? If yes, are there more disasters like hurricanes or earthquakes etc..?
Disscusion:
1. I would like to see more than 10 players. I played civilization VI with around 22 players (Me vs 21 ai that is) on maps that could supposedly only fit in 8 or 10. This added a realistic and interesting flavour to the game, as even IRL tiny countries and territories existed even in the renaissance like for example Ulm or Sparta. It also allowed a lot more small wars which is also realistic as it simulated small conflicts and you could also become rome and conquer a load of small useless nations while if there are only 8 or 10 countries each war is major because it leads to one of only 8 countries to disappear decreasing the total amount of countries by 12.5%! Humankind only has 10 cultures per era so it forces a cap amount of players to become 10, unless im wrong. If there was 12 countries for example, the first ten to go onto the next era get to pick a culture while the other two are either stuck with a generic 'culture' that has no special units or abilities or anything else. Its not my fault that they are trash :). Or as an alternative force the last to nations to transcend their current culture into the next era. Thoughts?
2.What do you think the last ten cultures are? Me and a person I know came up with the following: USA (there is proof of this) China (there is proof of this) Sweden (there might be proof of this) Australia, Canada, Japan, Brazil, India, Israel, South Africa. Thoughts?
3.Thechnically speaking adding 'futuristic' cultures is impossible unless there things like the separatists from star wars etc., because that would mean a great level of creativity and thought as for the past 300 years of human history most the cultures are similar to the ones today. So making the future with the basics of realism is close to impossible. Thoughts?
4. I saw a screenshot of an island filled with districts in industrial or contemporary era. Does this mean you can spawn in as an island nation? That would be great. It would be great if you could spawn on any tile of the map as long as its not water. If you have no resources and its unfair, YOUR PROBLEM. There could also be an option before creating a world to give fair starts to everyone. Thoughts?
Ideas:
1.Colonization. If you settle a city on another continent you should have the option, or be forced to, make it a colony. The settler unit already gives a nice flavour that helps the colonization mechanic but there can be more. You have your colony which might behave similar to a puppet with minor changes in rules etc. to make it look like a colony. If stability goes down enough then an independence war will occur. Now I have three ideas on what the independent colony would look like. 1. It randomly picks one of the unchosen cultures of the era that the colonizer is in.
2. It has the same culture as the colonizer with the difference of symbol, colour, avatar etc.. 3. It becomes a generic 'culture' which I explained above.
2.Factions. When you get to the industrial era and you research a specific technology you should be able to create factions. Real life examples are Axis, Allies or even NATO. I think this would be interesting but once again I think this needs a larger amount of players.
1.) Unlikely. The unique unit classes we saw in each revealed eras are likely not going to be added to when the game is officially released. Of course: we can not be 100% sure.
2.) In terms of roleplaying, being creating your own empire and playing out the if, thens, and whys of the consequences your culture(s) cause from their actions and growth in your mind is something i find unique to The grand strategy 4X sub-genre, like Stellaris—as those games focus more on being a sandbox where the goal isn’t to win, but experience and evolving narrative with your custom species. While Humankind allows for a limited roleplay about growing your own combination of cultures and leaving the most significant mark in human history, bot to mention all those events that pop up throughout the game, the fact that this game models itself as a modern take on the classical land-based 4X Empire building game makes me doubt this game will be capable of offering a lot of opportunities for significant roleplaying.
3.) We don’t know if volcanoes can erupts. However: Amplitude already mentioned back in 2019 that significant Climate change effects is something they are interested in implementing in the game, but have failed to be able to be able to find a way to realistically put into the game, at least before release. So don’t expect there to be climate change in this game.
