Money and Influence in the long game

I read that players reported that they were swimming with money and influence with little to spend it on. I would like to provide you with a couple of suggestions if you don't mind.

First, as eras progress, armies should become more and more expensive to build  and maintain than they do presently. Modern era armies are extremely expensive to sustain and very few countries can afford a WW2-size military force. Those that do have spent massive proportions of their GDP or have run up huge debt to do so. You might have the manpower and the resources to build a million-man army but you need to have the cash to maintain it.

Second, diplomatic efforts could also become considerably more expensive in the last two centuries. If you want to be one of the players on the world stage with the most clout, you'll need to be generating and expending massive amounts of influence to build and maintain your alliances. Perhaps the cost of all influence actions could be driven by influence inflation with the costs for ALL determined by the influence generation of the strongest?

Lastly, most modern countries spend a lot of their GDP on social programmes to keep their population healthy and provide an education for them. Perhaps some social spending would be needed to counter societal discontent?  The more population you have, the more you have to spend to keep everyone happy. Again, another population inflation mechanic that means the more pops you have in your country, the more expensive it becomes to keep them happy.

There are a small number of ideas to kick around while we handle the initial disappointment of the delay. Feel free to trash them or offer alternatives. :D

As per the last stream, we learned some stuff that may make you happy.

It seems units now require money equal to their production construct, as of the b-roll from the Unity Stream and the Post-Delay Announcement streams.

Additionally, there is now a city and army soft cap, and going over can apparently incur a penalty, likely to money and influence, or both.
