Harrapan Canal Network and Fertile Inundation Confusion?

I'm not understanding how this District generates its bonuses for the Harrapans.

First, the Harrapan ability

Just a quick note that the wording here is "+1 Food on District Producing Food". This is misleading. In my experience what is actually happening is "+1 Food on tiles producing Food from District Exploitation.", or even more simply "+1 Food on Food tiles". In other words, the +1 doesn't occur on the District tile, it occurs on all neighboring tiles which have a Food yield. And also, the +1 isn't because the District is producing its own Food, it's because it is exploiting Food. I'll come back to this later.

Here is the Canal Network, as compared to the Farmer's Quarter

The Canal is supposed to provide "+1 Food per Neighbor producing Food". I assumed this meant any exploited tile that produces Food. But it does not. Is a Neighbor only considered a District that produces Food? What about a District that only exploits Food?

Finally, what is the significance of the Canal tile being a River? Gameplaywise, this seems to do nothing, as it does not Provide the general +1 Food provided by Rivers, nor does it provide the additional +1 Food the Harrapans receive on Rivers.

This demonstrates why I'm drawing these conclusions. During the District construction:

This is what I see when I place the Canal Network. You can see here that:

  1. The tile the Canal will be built upon will receive no Food bonuses. This means that the Harrapan bonus "Food on Districts" seems to not be applied; but actually, when I checked the tile before building the district, it's already being applied. Thus my conclusion above about the phrasing of that bonus being very confusing. More importantly though, neither is there any new bonus for turning it into a River, nor the Fertile Inundations 2nd +1 bonus for rivers.
  2. The nearby Prarie goes from 0 > 3. The base yield of that tile is 2, so it's increasing by 1. We'll see later that the Farmer's Quarters also provides this same increase, so I believe it is coming from the Harrapan "Fertile Inundations" bonus, and not from the "neighbor bonus" the Canal Network claims to provide.
  3. The nearby River goes from 0 > 2. The base yield of that tile is 1, so it's also increasing by 1. Now this is really inconsistent, because Fertile Inundations should be giving it two separate +1 bonuses. +1 for being a river and +1 for being a food tile that is exploited by a District. I suspect after I build the Canal, this will actually be a 3, not a 2.
  4. The neighboring Farmer's Quarter increases by 1. I can't tell if this increase is due to the Farmer's Quarter now having a valid neighbor for its own synergy, or if the Canal District is creating this from its "+1 Food on Neghbor Producing Food". I believe it is the second, and "Neighbor" = "Neighboring District".

Notice how the Farmer's Quarter behaves like I would expect:
  1. The neighboring Farmer's Quarter increases because it will have a new neighboring Farmer's Quarter
  2. The tile of the new Farmer's Quarter increases by +2 because of +1 for the new Farmer's Quarter itslef and an additional +1 for synergy of being next to another Farmer's Quarter
  3. All other bonuses are the same as the Canal
This makes the Farmer's Quarters much more desirable than the Canal, at least according to the yield projections.  I'm going to save my game now and see if these tooltips are all bugs.

Okay, it turns out these are all tooltip bugs.

Bug #1: When placing Canal Networks, the newly built river it will make is not accounted for in the tooltip bonuses (+1 Food from river and +1 Food from river due to Fertile Inundations)

Bug #2: When placing Canal Networks the "+1 Food on Neighbor" bonus is also not displayed

So in this case, the Canal Networks actually produced +10 food instead of the +6 food indicated by the placement tooltips.

I also stand by my feedback that the first bonus for Fertile Inundations is worded in a misleading way. Maybe this is an old description that was from a time when the ability functioned differently?

Update: I just noticed an additional bug that I almost missed!

Bug #3: The yield tooltip indicated that the Farmer's Quarter District was going to increase by +1 Food, but it actually didn't. It remained 5 even after the Canal Network was constructed.

From reading the wiki, it seems that maybe in previous versions, the Canal Network behaved like a Farmer's Quarter in terms of providing them an adjacency bonus, but this feature was dropped? Because I don't see it mentioned in the Canal Network district tooltip in the Victor build.

Scratch all that, I was messing with saves and was looking at this tile on the wrong save :)

I actually got +2 instead of +1 on the Farmer's Quarter District after the Canal Network was completed (total yield = 7). So there is still a bug with the initial tooltip. I guess the Canal Network still counts as a Farmer's Quarter when a neighboring Farmer's Quarter is considering an adjacency bonus. I believe it was +1 due to "Canal neighbor" and +1 for "Adjacent Farmer's Quarter". It's not exactly clear, but I think this is correct.

Its basically Amplitude being very french and not learning english at an early age, which is why their blurbs(nb: in english) are hard to understand for someone who's learned english grammar in primary school.
