I think I've lost count. Human culture is so vast. I'm not surprised that a culture like the Toraja or Maori would be over looked for more Euro centric cultures but I'm starting to think that even if I don't enjoy the game I'm grateful enough for the concept of fluid human cultures that change over time being the focus of a game that I'll continue to look forward to the release of this game and hope it can become a pivotal and fundamental turning point away from generalized and popularized notions of 1st / 2nd / 3rd world civilizations. Because it's Amplitude I don't think they'll be able to get away from snow balling shenanigans and make playing from behind that interesting.

I'm looking forward not just to the base game release, but also to the future DLCs that add new cultures and new events.  Unlike the Civ-series, which was constantly adding new (and unnecessary) game mechanics in expansions, I hope that HK will ship with all of the core game mechanics already in place.  That should be much friendlier to the AI (and modders) and allow the game to get richer and better over time, not more convoluted and bloated.

What do you expect for core mechanics? This launch has been a refinement and I'm happy to say with a bit more experience under my belt I can almost bring myself to disagree with myself above. I can't imagine a civilization game that doesn't at some point bring in more complicated systems like pollution and maybe even another attempt at modern cyber warfare (oooh nooo). I can kind of imagine that even if it may not have the depth that it could... it might be a solid enough and balanced enough experience that people looking to play multiplayer might come back the the 'base' / 'launch' version for a better multiplayer experience because it's a more playable game.

I was wary of switching cultures for each epoch. but more I played through opendev lucy and victor. I actually have enjoyed switching cultures and learning about them. It has been years since any game has captured my imagination and made me wonder at small details that have gone into the game like animation on map or art work or even quotes. I didn't feel jaded playing this game

That's a great recommendation. I discovered in my last few games just how satisfying it is to switch off.
