Vassalization is a mechanic which is good but i see that problem in it is if player or AI got trapped in it cannot escape it.

There should be mechanic that there should be mechanic like freedom movement which cause instant increase in war support and newly trained unit can get extra strength to fight a war.

The war support can be like 10 or 15 it shows the empire urge for independence.

What you think about it.

They still can have grievances and may declare war on you if they hate you enough.

And I hope there will be some anti-colonial movement in later eras that would give +5 or even more grievances each turn for just been vassal.

In my opinion, vassalization as currently designed is too strong.

- It is a wargoal which is most of the time (especially in early game) easily achievable,

- especially in the context that the AI currently does not sufficiently defend its territory and does not exploit your weaknesses.

- It keeps vassalized AI out of the game forever, I never seen them revolt.

- It gives a very strong financial bonus

Vassalize two enemys in early game, let them further spread and you have basically won.

Another problem is that I did not see sufficient diplomatic reaction to vassalization, i.e. a war alliance of your neigbours to free the vassalized nation would be nice.

In my first play throgh, I vassalized a neighbor very early in the game. Several turns later they attacked me so it is possible for them to revolt.

That's great but it i have seen that a small empire vassal a large empire so i think that large empire should build a huge army and end the vassal agreement and can demand freedom of other vassal too.

It should be a strong revolt and more often if vassal empire is huge and strong.

Fully agree on that, I started game on civilization difficulty and was strugglng defending myself from surrounding enemies. However, once I killed several mayan small armies and forced them to retreat several times their war desire dropped to zero (even if they had 3 times more population than me) and they agreed to become a vassal).

From 30-40 gpt I went to 900 in one turn. Needless to say my financial goals were achieved by that and I could buy pretty much everything =)

Yeah this system might need some tweaks. Vassals should have some loyalty depending on traits of the ruler, but they should also be able to revolt, especially if someone has multiple vassals, if the vassals are being bullied too much, if the vassals are more powerful or of similar power compared to their liege, if vassals can somehow find support from others to free them, etc.

Also my vassal was killing units of other civilizations I wasn't at war with, causing grievances. I don't think that should happen, or at least it should have repercussions for the vassal somehow. But then again I don't really know how you can punish someone who is already your vassal.

My main problem with vassalization so far is how much easier it is than actually claim territory from the enemy. I shouldn't have to raze and resettle the territory to get it. If anything war is pretty much only aspect of the game I dislike.
