I've been trying in and out yesterday, the beta version offered to us and since last time during the Victor opendev I managed to win two games at the highest difficulty, I was curious to try again.... Oh my goodness, not sure if it's me being bad at the game but most of the AI was in the early modern era in 75 turns... and was just snowballing out of control! I tried multiple times with different tactics too, it just seems that the AI gets a HUGE buff to everything, to the point where they are able to lay down 4 cities in a matter of 60 to 70 turns. Again, I might just be bad at The game but I assure you something felt out of place, today I will try a lower difficulty and see if there is such a huge spike in AI advantages. I agreed that the humankind difficulty needed some tweaks to increase it's difficulty, but definitely not to this levels.
Please let me know if you guys have experienced the same, or if you found it quite challenging but nothing out of place.

Did you fall behind for at least two eras and then caught up with them towards the end, or were you able to tailgate them since the start? Could you please tell me what cultures you used? I'm sorry but I'm quite curious.

I don't think I was ever behind. For cultures it was egypt, maya, khemer, joson, austria-hungary. By around turn 145 I reached contemporary era and had several industrial era techs with my tech rate quickly ramping up and would do alot more so since I picked the swedes but the game instead ends once you reach contemporary.

Then, it must be me. I didn't focus obsessively on population growth, probably because in Victor open dev was quite easy to gather food. That might have caused my slow start, I might need to prioritize food and then production.

Yes, it is definetly alot harder now. Hopefully not too hard, so that everyone are forced to play like a pro min/maxer to keep up. At least not on all difficulties.
The changes to stabllity as well as needing so much influence for alot of things now, has made it a lot harder. I think many are so used to previous builds in OpenDevs and it takes some adapting and getting used to. Not spam too many districts that gives minus stablity, look at the civics sliders and check so you don't lose too much stablity depening on where on the axis the civics goes etc, as well as not attach too many territories to one city too fast. Get stablity under control etc before going crazy and spam districts like You could before. At tyhe same time earn era stars and keep up with sciece. A lot to cope with at once for sure. Definetly not a simple walk in the park anymore.
"One does not simply walk into" victory in Humankind anymore. :P
Maybe some numbers needs to be tuned down a little bit, so it's not too hard for alot of people (not everyone is a pro min/maxer after all), but overall it's a nice new challenge for sure in this closed beta. :)
