Hello neighbour, I've been playing for 36 years and I started with a game called Air Attack and even though English isn't my first language but I prefer playing the game in that way.
Even Games from my home country, I play in English rather than my own language.

I don't know why this is important how long we play games and where we are from, but I'm okay just rolling with it.


With that out of the way:
More or less 130.000.000 people speak my mother tongue even though my country makes a lot of video games.
Roughly 300.000.000 people speak French and with UBI, Focus and Amplitude you have quite the Videogame pedigree as well.

Now about 1.300.000.000 speak English - A lot of the "rich", "1st World" able to afford video games speaks English.
It's just profitable to do your game in English. On top of that, a lot of games gets translated into Chinese first. 

Huge market.

Nationalism, patriotism and fondness of one's language aren't something that mixes well with profits and our current economic system.

I don't see how everyone finally being able to talk to each other (probably in English) will ever become boring.

Rather the opposite, I would have thought, especially if we want to achieve a Type I Civilisation at some point, then we need a common language. The more people learning English by playing games and contributing to Forums on the Internet, the more we are getting closer in that regard.

But then again, I'm not even sure a country where the government has waged a campaign of extermination against the regional languages like Breton and Occitan for decades and has a council of "immortals" deciding that computers should be called "micro-ordinateurs" and walkman should be "baladeurs" to keep the language cleansed from intercultural influences understands that concept.

Come to think of it:
Where is the game mechanic that let's me decide how I and my glorious empire handles language. I want to play as an obnoxious Dystopian Godemperor enforcing Orwellian "Newspeak" and abolishing foreign terms from my cultural language of choice. Where is the civic law that gives me the "les immortels" options?
