Possibility to change city-center design in a new era

Rather than start a new thread, I want to add my 2 cents:

I don't mind that the administrative center is an old building, but it is immersion braking when its still a Babylonian ziggurat, I think that it being updated, starting in the medieval era, to reflect the prior civilization would be fine. So the Carthaginians would still have Phoenician city centers, but upon becoming the Byzantines, it will change to Carthaginian city centers, reflecting that the city is still "old" and has historic buildings. But when you transcend, the buildings update, so if you remain as Carthage, all the city centers update.

I like that idea basically the city centres lag behind your actual development. So in contempoary you would have a lot of Industrial era centres, that feels accurate.

Of course I'd love some player choice on when to change them, but the biggest problem is how the ancient era centres remain the entire game. It just feels like I'm still Assyria even when I'm long past that.

I love it that the name of the city and the main plaza are based on the culture that you founded it with.

If they change it, please have an option to keep the existing system.

I like it too, in theory but after playing the game quite a bit in open devs, betas and now release I'm tired of seeing the same cities as the major settlements across an entire game. Its always Kerma, Harrapa, Assur, Mykene... with unchanging plazas for 1000's of years. There are 60 cultures in the game but it feels like less because those first 10 have a disproportionate impact on the look of the map.

1. You need a technology for changing your capitol.

2. There is no city center changing option yet, right?

Yes to both counts. Also changing capital does not change any graphics. You can change your city centre apperance by ransacking the main plaza and then rebuilding the city, thats it.

I'd like to change the design too. But I doubt they will change that since their focus is to mix cultures.

Totally right. Berlins historic and cultural centre is not a 2000 year old Germanic hut, but the streets and buildings of the Enlightenment and Industrialisation. All historic cities in Eurasia have their centres filled with Early modern and Industrial architecture. Better preserved cities might also have a lot of medieval buildings, but classical temples and ancient ziggurats have no place in modern cities. If they even still exist, then they are often only some ruins on the outskirts of the city, the only big exception being Cairo.

+1 we really need that kind of option, It takes me completely out of the immersion of having my main Egyptian city while I am in the Middle Ages with the francs. I believe that I too will have to raze my city to rebuild it ...

Please let us the choice !
