I am thinking about my own civ-like game for couple years. I would like to prototype and test my ideas. Good shortcut for me would be reusing civ-like game - be it Civ, Old World or Humankind, etc. I see around some guys who has been modding for years - so I am curious if this is viable option from anyone's experience. For example - Old World is closer to my idea of accumulating resources in stock and having actual economy ingame - as I want to try ideas around logistics - if my ideas are viable in grand civ games. So if I would like to have something like this implemented in Humankind - how hard is it? Will I shoot myself in feet? Or should I rather switch to Old World or any other game with really good modding support? I do not care much how old game is. But community and recent documentation is always helpful.
I can always build my boilerplate in game egine, but it takes lot of time to get place, when I can just start to prototype - but of course - flexiblity would be "unlimited". But I am afraid time spend in building boilerplate, I will actually burn most of my energy before even getting to playtesting.
