I've run into the problem described above. In the session I played this evening I couldn't progress beyond turn 45 as the the following turn would hang on the "turn pending" message. Not sure if this is part of the problem/bug, but as the game tries to move on to turn 46 I get two notifications for events which keep recycling and can't be closed.
