Bonus should only work when an allied unit is adjacent to the Praetorian Guards.

But in this example the defending unit is alone, with the bonus present.

Note: at the start of the combat round there was an adjacent ally unit. (is the bonus static/sticky?)

Yeah, still seeing this and it's super-strong. It's like Phalanx on steroids, since all it seems to require an adjacent ally and not a rear attack situation (though I think the wording is now clearer that it doesn't strictly require a rear attack, which would have helped keep it in check).
