hi, from last new update i have buy, i just can't play the game on steam, ( trying on xbox game pass and work fine ), when i launch game, a black screen coming from less a second and disapear and game didn't start ( the button on steam say again "play") i have try to uninstall game and instal in different drive, same issue, i have re instal steam, same issue, so i have buy the new extension but can't play it ...

Could it be that you have some anti-virus program installed?
I had Humankind.exe at first blocked after the latest patch toady. Although it has been set as "trusted" and not blocked just before the patch. When blocked it will try to start then just get blocked and not really boot up. Resulting in a black screen. It's the anti virus and firewall set to rather be safe then sorry. Since after a new file is installed the anti-virus might not trust it at first, or like today a new patch patch/update makes the files hash size change. When that happens to files on a PC it could mean that the file has had some trojan inserted and thus the anti-virus firewall blocks it (any efficient anti-virus anayway). However all I had to do was to go into my anti-virus program settings, under firewall and "allow" Humankind.exe, so it is set as "trusted" by me. Then the anti-virus will let it load and boot the game properly. It can also be blocked if it tries to alter other files on your PC. I have noticed that after patched Humankind.exe tries toi acces or delete my older Diagnostic files in the Humankind directory. The anti-vrus then thinks it's a malicious file trying to alter things in other files on my PC. That can also result in Humankind.exe being blocked.
So even if I have set Humankind.exe to be considered "safe/trusted" I have to redo that after each new patch. It's a small price to pay for having an anti-virus and firewall that actually protects me. It's actually the same with other games I used to play, for example like LoTRO etc. After each update it was considered a new file, different hash size and blocked.
Usually quite quickly at least my anti-virus will flag files as safe once enough of the anti-virus users (community) have flagged it as safe. However if I get a file when it's very new (like today humankind.exe was very fresh with it's new hash size) and when only a few users of my anti-virus program has used a file, it will usually be blocked.
Thanks for your reply, I've checked but no, it's not coming from there, I think there really is a problem between steam and the game launch, I tested your solution just in case but it didn't seem very likely given that there were no problems with the gamepass launch and that on steam I had completely uninstalled the game and reinstalled it on different disks.
The registry file you found in the steamapps/common/humankind is the "original" we use to create your own "local" registry which should be located in your "Document/Humankind/User/[yourSteamId]".
Could you check if you have the right to read/write on this folder?

OK so i have found issue ! the problem was from registry file in C / user / appdata / local / temp / humankind / mount / changing statut was on read only. the strange was the files didn't fix itself when uninstall and instal game. thank's for help
