As title states. Since the newest update (Anne Bonny) I am unable to upgrade ranged units. I can build them but not upgrade them. "No upgrade available".

Hey, thanks for the report.

Have you used any mods? Either while you encountered this bug, or in your last game before (as in some cases mod data may not be properly unloaded)

Bumping this, because I'm seeing the same issue. No mods, but Archers do not upgrade into Samnahyas (Mauryan Emblematic). It's also a relatively new development, because I know I've played a game post-patch that I was able to do the upgrades, but now for some reason I cannot. Not sure if patch or bug, but can't really find much more information about it.

Its patch, not bug. It changed in the latest hotfix, they changed a lot of unit upgrade patches. Here's the new upgrade trees:

Thank you so much for this resource; it's an awesome chart, and I wish something like this existed in game to make it easier to see upgrade paths, rather than just needing to know them all from memory (it's also really unclear because there's no language distinguishing between a ranged mounted unit and just a standard ranged unit, for example, but clearly these count as different types of units).

But, forgive my ignorance if I'm just missing something simple, what makes you say that it is a patch and not a bug? I have looked over the patch notes for the update and each subsequent patch (the ones I can find, anyway), and I can't find any mention of this specific change. And as there isn't anything (as far as I am aware) in the language in-game that indicates one ranged unit can't upgrade into another for whatever reason, I'm curious if the (awesome) chart you linked is just play tested inference, or actually the intended design of the game. I admittedly could have missed some critical detail in the notes that explains this, so please help me find it if I have done so. Thanks!

Yeah, they haven't documented it. We can see the upgrade paths by checking the unit families either by decompressing the game files or opening them in the official mod tools, but sadly there's no in-game resource accessible without those kind of tools.

Oof, that feels a bit alienating for most players since I imagine most don't use those tools and just play the game. Thank you so much for sharing that chart though, it brought to light some really interesting things I didn't know about the tree. Javelin type ranged don't upgrade until Musketeers, no standard ranged or anti-cav upgrades until medieval, "ranged cavalry" seemingly being a unique upgrade path but without any in-game language indicating them as such (and also nothing stating that they can't climb fortifications, you just have to know it already). This is a tremendous resource, but man, seeing the actual tree really makes unit upgrades feel like a bit of a mess and in need of some general rework, imo. Thank you so much for sharing the information!
