Destroyer - Dis one is kawaii

Battleship - Dis one is Moe

Dreadnought-Strfemchar (strong female character)

I name my ships out of looks. Shallow right? These are character trait slang if you don't read alot. lol. I'm planing to rename conquered colonies after whatever ship it was destroyed by when multiplayer come out.

In other games, I usually name them after fruit or whatever. It varies.

I name them after "space nouns." Sunspot, Parhelion, Nebula, Eclipse, Syzygy, etc.

Depending on the class, I may use mountains/volcanoes for some bigger warship names. Everest, Fuji, Krakatoa, Kilimanjaro, etc

For other ships, I may use basic astronomy terms. Azimuth, Zenith, Perihelion, Comet, Cepheid, Gamma, Exosphere, etc

That seems... traditional.

It is very traditional, hence why I like it. It adds to the "realism", personality. And it makes me feel like I know what I'm doing.

Pretty much after authors, especially sci-fi authors.

Verne, Clarke, Wells, Huxley, Asmiov, Scott Card, Heinlein, Bradbury...

Io, Puck, Enceladus, Mimas, Europa, Rhea, Ariel, Phobos, Iapetus, Titan, Titania, Ganymede, Phoebe, Triton, Tethys, Dione...

This, with a hull size marker.

In other games where relevant I usually add a tecnology marker too;

DM1 Callisto = destroyer, military tier 1

TC2 Adrastea = transport, civilian tier 2

This question has been addressed. Apparently, you already can rename your systems but I don't think there's anything about individual planets yet.

Oh theres so many good names out there for ships .. but I try to avoid Enterprise (^^,) (Even though I kinda like it for a ship)

Names depend on ship classes and on the race I'm playing:

Imperial ships:

Small fast ships get names like: Haste, Viper, Venom, Stormhawk, Tempest, Wraith, ...

Big Warships get names like: Implacable, Sovereign, Chimera, Avenger, Indominatable, ...

Sophon ships would get names like:

Light of Ascension (usually flagship),Guardian, Angelwing, Iyanden, Alaitoc, Saim-Hann, ...

(Hmm I've actually got a file where I keep ideas for ship names.. depending on what I associate a race/faction with)

edit: For me its important to give names to my ships so I think I'm leading an Empire... And also I start to grow fond of some of them (my Flagship, small ships that take on bigger ones and win, Big ships that survive heavy battles, ships that lead main thrusts in enemy territory, "Prototypes", etc pp)

Latin, for words such as:

Revenge (Ultionem)

Vengeance (Vindictam)

Discovery (Inventionem)

Or sometimes names that relate to the race I'm playing as. For instance:

Sophon: Ascension (Large Ships), Guardian, Generosity, Light of Day, Archangel, etc...

Imperial: Allfather (Large Ships), Tempest, Hurricane, Inferno, etc...

Craver: Bringer of Darkness (Large Ships), Consumer, Destruction, Blight, Plague, etc...

I also have mainly used Japanese ship names, though thus far I have normally chosen the names of DD's and Cruisers and the like
