Yeah, I have the same feeling. The gameplay idea is nice, but robots with minor factions? I think it would suit ES better, since this is fantasy, not sci-fi, after all. Especially the fact that The Cult is lead by two Endless experiments. It gives me Imperium of Man from WH40K / Covenant from Halo / Aztec vibes. If this was a competition for ES, they would have gotten my vote. Also, what bothers me is that every time I refresh the pool data, he gets at least one vote. "The anonymous creator" idea would have been much better.
Yeah jeez, I didn't realize how many people designed cybernetic races. I REALLY hope none of them win; they totally clash with the game's theme. If they're advanced enough to make robots, why don't they have lasers? Shouldn't they just totally destroy and dominate the other races? How are idiots wielding swords supposed to stand a chance against robots with guitars and laser guns?

Yeah, I don't care for robots in this game either. But if you'd like some goblin-esque cave people you can vote 45 smiley: stickouttongue

Just my opinion but the most awesome factions based on how innovative and cool the mechanics could be are definitely Viridiplantae or The Maskari. You should check them both out if you haven't voted yet #5 and #7. Really cool ideas guys! I can't wait to see the final faction!

The tie in with Endless Space and that Sci-fi setting was bound to create this kind of problem. Add to that that the devs basically gave no guidance whatsoever to what fits or doesn't fit the setting, people were bound to go wild.

Well, Vaulters are basically sci-fi humans, with that Titan unit, but they do use bows / axes / hammers. And their armour just looks like a really heavy 16th-century cavalry armour, with viking beards. Other case that comes to mind is the Dwemers from TES, but their automatons use crossbows / hammers / magic, not lasers or missiles. Oh, and the Asura from Guild Wars, but they build their advanced tech, like golems or energy rifles, around magic.

So that concept is not new to fantasy, although none of the races I listed are cyborgs smiley: stickouttongue

Yeah, I really hope that if something that's really off-theme or that's basically a copy off of a copyrighted IP wins, the devs have enough sense to disqualify them from inclusion in the top 3 vote.

I mean heck, did someone really name their race the exact same name as an ES race? The Sowers (and I checked the original submission thread for their lore, they have nothing in common with the ES lore for the Sowers other than that they're robots for some reason)? There are a lot of submissions here that should not have passed muster.

Actually, that author wanted to make a precursor-race for the sowers on Auriga that started off as cybernetics and became full-blown robotic at the last age in a form of ongoing transformation. At least that's the way I understood the intent.

I agree that it slightly alters the lore on the origin of the sowers, but the author put in more thought for that faction than you give it credit. That said, I also won't vote for it, as it doesn't fit my understanding of what fits into EL and what doesn't. (If there's only one winner and the Vaulters are already the ES lore standard to escape and become a major faction, how can the Sowers also end up coming from the same planet?)

It goes beyond "slightly alters the lore." The Endless didn't create them, their desire for terraforming is due to personal security instead of for the Endless; plus, beyond just coming from the same planet, they also apparently now came into existence AFTER the fall of the Endless (otherwise how is there dust on the EL planet?). Also they apparently forgot how to space ship.

It just doesn't fit at all. I mean, I have no issue with the mechanics of them; the design is fine. They just require a massive retcon and don't fit the theme of EL at all.

I do not believe that anything that is on Auriga hasn't come into existence by either direct or indirect meddling of the Endless due to the presence of dust. And they might believe that their desires are their own, they could just as well be preprogrammed by the Virtuals, as ES lore dictates.

But you're right about the ships, they're supposed to have transformed a few worlds already, aren't they?

In any case, as I already said, I agreed on them not fitting. I just dislike bashing one single author that much whom you cannot accuse of having been absolutely mindless about his race, just major lore-bending/forcing, whichever verb you prefer.

I seriously think that your faction is under-appreciated and I decided to do something about it. Besides, I like your idea a lot, the only issue I have with your race is the fact that it's humanoid. But since I voted on a lot of non-humanoid races, I thought it's ok if I vote for one bipedal filth smiley: stickouttongue

Hehehe. Thanks. smiley: smile I had to stick to overgrown three-eyed smurfs because I could not find anything better and not already used (I had already discarded two faction ideas more, one being quite similar to the Viridiplantae). But I had fun making them and knowing that at least someone else find them interesting (despite the humanoid thing), is good enough. smiley: smile

Especially if we consider that I haven't done any real advertisement for them.

The idiots wielding swords have their own John Connor. smiley: stickouttongue Or those robots may find themselves facing some lizard guerrilla that gives them their own Vietnam. But yeah, lasers vs swords by themselves and head to head... not seeing it.

I don't intend to bash the author, and I don't think he was mindless. I mean, I was wrong in the sense that I assumed that his Sowers were different due to the necessity of a retcon. I think he did about as well as is possible at introducing a second ES race to the game, but I think realistically adding another ES race is impossible and so, if I'm to be honest, I don't like his idea.

So let's think about this reasonably:

What faction is missing from the current lineup? Something religious.

What's a fun and unique way to use minor factions? Sacrificing them for miracles.

Who's a great god to sacrifice your allies to? How about the sun?

What are some other great things to add? Love of civilization, aztec/arabic appearance, and vaguely roman culture.

Who should you vote for? THE SOLARIANS.

Plus you get to scream at heretics in Latin. LUX INVICTA! smiley: twisted

And plus they already have a faction emblem.

(PS sorry to interrupt the conversation, but from looking at that poll some advertising was badly needed smiley: ohh)

Man most the leading faction ideas are the least interesting/overdone ones ugh.. Hopefully some of the other more interesting ideas come from behind or these uninteresting ones get an overhaul if chosen.

I just voted for my own little creation and was pleased to see a few other people did as well, the ryuukin, for pseudo-chinese dragon men! I also voted for the mer-amazons, the pirates, the shintao and a few others, nice to see at least one of my choices is doing well.

Morning.*checks the poll* Goes pretty much as expected <_<

I don't really care if I don't win, but seems like I feel sad since not many people share passion I had for my idea =/ I wouldn't really care about not winning if my idea would at least be doing okay...

Isn't the second route for top three winners of this poll?

And entry that is in middle of 99 poll, has after a day 10 votes while biggest ones have 20 or 30 or even 40 more votes isn't going to suddenly make a dark horse victory. Its not like I have that many friends to ask if they are interested! xD

Thanks for the votes guys. It's a great confidence boost to know my concept resonates with some people! The Maskari are something of a fantasy adaptation of a homegrown scifi concept largerly inspired by the Darloks of Masters of Orion 2.

We have lots of great entries here. Personally I'm rooting for Cultists of the Eternal End. I love a good holy war >.>
