When they are old and still people remember them, they can be said to be classic.

Sorry to be repeating myself on different threads but....

I've been having problems with loading saves and crashing after manual battles late game in vanilla.

Is the expansion likely to fix these or is that just wishful thinking? smiley: confused

Seem like a tech issue, but well, I didn't get those problems with expansion so far.

However, since you mention 'late game', it might have something to do with memory issues, which I doubt is better with expansion.

If it is really a memory issue, just close every other program besides the game (and steam), then check if it crashes.

Keep in mind that most players of any game never visit the forums for that game.

I know and from these steam statistics, this game does seem to have a lot of players playing (between 400 and 900 every hour), for a game that's almost 2 years old.

I was just wondering if it justified another dlc, but maybe that makes the game sell a couple more copies.

Yeah, some people are even still buying that old game, only to find out that it still doesn't work properly smiley: frown even after all this time.

Your game only crashes in manual battles, right? So you can just do automated battles. I never do manual battles late game, because they take so much time.

I'm confused, what old game are we talking about?

Endless Space, published in 2012. It's slowly growing old, but still has many players playing.

i believe the correct term in the English language would be older, or perhaps ancient, or before the time of the dinosaurs and electricity.

I know you're only tring to help but that doesn't really answer my question about whether or not the expansion would fix the problem. I AM playing without watching the manual battles but, and I know it sounds picky, but I don't know what my end of tech lasers look like because I've never watched a manual battle past go 180 odd? That may seem unimportant, and, agreed, I don't want to watch ALL of the battles but just one every so often would be nice (without the hastle of having to save the game, crash, reload, etc). I figure that when they made the game part of the idea was that you could watch the battles that they'd gone to all the effort of programmingsmiley: confused

I posted a tech thread ages ago but no resolution yet.

Would like to get the expansion but not if the same problem will occur smiley: money

I agree with anomalacaris that the expansion probably doesn't fix the memory problem. I think the problem is that it's a 32 bit game and it's running out of its paltry 2 gigs of memory. It doesn't matter if you have more memory installed. 32 bit can only do so much.

As a group of gamers, we found the 2 gig limit to be a problem in Galactic Civilizations 2, so we used the "Large Address Aware" app to boost the memory capability to 3 gigs. That might not equal what a 64 bit computer can do, but it's a 50% increase in available memory allocation.

Here's some information on it from the Tech Power Up forums. The app can be downloaded from the OP towards the bottom of the post (under attached files). Hopefully, Endless Space will be able to benefit from it.

Mumrah!!!! Now that's what I'm talkin about. Some progress. Tech guys have been sat on my files for a week and no reply yet, so this is the most promising development yet smiley: approval

(Even if they'd have just admitted it's a memory issue, or informed me that the expansion wouldn't fix it then it would have been appreciated, so thanks for doing it now).

I checked that site out and i'll give it a go. Do i just download it and install? Should I back up anything 1st (paranoia)?

My latest campaign crashes on manual battle at turn 184, just as it starts to get interesting, and I have 16 gig o RAM smiley: frown

I would definitely do a system backup before installing any app and this one is no exception. It claims to work on Windows 7, but I haven't personally tried it on 7. I used it on XP back in the day.

It's not just an install and go thing. In the OP's "spoilers", there are instructions on how to use it in Win 7. With that forum, the instructions promptly hide themselves when you click the toggle, but if you click the header afterwards, it'll show back up. You'll need to point the app to the Endless Space .exe so it can be large address aware.

I hope it helps.

K I did all of that without any gaffes, but the ES exe already showed up as originally 'true', which i assume means it was already Large Address Aware as i didn't have to change anything. Nonetheless, I have started a new campaign so I'll let you know my progress in a few days. Thanks again for the suggestion smiley: smile

I don't mean to be insulting with this suggestion because it's a long shot. However, I used to work on a Help Desk, and sometimes this was the issue...

How often do you restart or turn off your computer? If the answer is rarely, that could be the problem. A restart let's the computer regain its resources and memory that slowly get eaten away over time.

Assuming you do turn off or restart your computer every few days, please ignore this post!

I was under the impression that all versions of Winodws beyond XP came with physical address extension technology already loaded?

but perhaps I am just misreading this chart and need to install that app myself smiley: smile

You might be right, Stealth_Hawk. I used the app under XP, but that was some time ago. Hopefully, it'll make a difference for Scheizer. If it doesn't we'll still have some data to go on and can continue the quest from there.

I don't have the crashing problem, but I'm using Vista 64 Business on my gaming machine. I doubt that there are more than a handful of others with that OS.
