I think we have solved the problem. smiley: cool

I verified the steam files/cache, then loaded up the game. But this time it installed some sort of Microsoft package before going into the game. As a result I had buttons and things that I didn't have before, for example audio sliders.

I have not got far into my new game yet, but so far so good, finger crossed.

If you pump out a ton of colony ships from your home planet, you're going to devastate its population, cause subsequent building to take longer, and give the planet a lengthy recovery time as it has to regrow. You're forgetting about that, and it hurts if you do that to your best system. There's far less of an effect for a fresh colony with only two pop to stretch itself out to another planet in the system, even if it takes longer to build.

I was doing it as a way to control over population. As long as the citizens are happy, I was going to keep doing it. That population I lost is replaced in a turn or two (on newbie).

Edit (add): How do transports work? I had assumed they were used to move population/colonize but they seem to lack both options, even though there is a colonize button, it is always crossed out for me. What are they used for as I tried to again control over population, this was before I discovered you can manually move the people icons.

If that colonise button was there then things would be a lot easier, but it's not. smiley: smile

Also I have also had a colony ship in the queue for ages now but it never seems to get built.

I think maybe I have a bad saved game or something, things just don't work.

Regarding the colony ship in the queue. Do you have one of those conversions above it currently running? You will have to stop that first before anymore building can be done.

So the those conversion things go in the same queue as your ships? Strange.

I have more than two pop in the system but no colonize button.

I think I will start a new game and try again. This game is giving me a migraine I can tell you. smiley: smile

All improvments/ constructions/ ships/ colonization are in the same queue, in each star system.

For the colonize button, have you researched the right research?

I don't know. It gives me no indication that I need further research, and it is now a white planet.

Maybe it needs a hero. smiley: smile

This is weird. Where the colonise button is on my screenshot. Does it instead say "missing requirement" and list what it is? If so then that's what is missing. Otherwise the only thing i can think of is to take a screenshot like i did so we might be able to see better what is wrong. No promises though that a screenshot will really tell us much more and it could simply be just a weird bug you ran into.

edit: wait. is it possible that this is a system far from your territory and is not in your own influence yet? If so perhaps an enemy influence is nearby preventing you from doing in-system colonisation? I have no idea though as i've never ran into a situation like that to see. I know enemy influence would prevent you from sending a colony ship, but no idea about in-system colonisation.

You need a hero! I'm holding out for a hero

'til the end of the night

He's gotta be strong

And he's gotta be fast

And he's gotta be fresh from the Fight...

I loooove in-system colonizing. I was dreading another GalCiv2-like constructor convoy for building on already developed infrastructure. GJ Amp.

I think that something has gone terribly wrong with my game. A lot of the things that are in the Quill video I don't seem to have, so I am going to have steam verify my files then start a new game and see if things get better.

I appreciate the help, thank you.

You can either build a new colony ship and use it to colonise the planet in this system. or you can click the planet inside your system that you want to colonise and it should have a button on the left blinking whioch says "colonise". This is in-system colonisation.

Another way to takes 2 turns to make a in-system colony :

- Colonize the first planet.

- assign a administrative hero, when you have the upgrades for labor +3 lvl 1 and 2, you've got another upgrade for +2 food. The population growth takes 1 turn with that.

- start colonizing other planets. Hint : you can pay-dust for those.

- ...

- Profit !

Good thing is, you can actually do this in addition to whatever else you're doing to expand.

Try verifying your steam files. Before I done this and started a new game, I couldn't build them either, in fact I don't remember even having a template for one.

that is definately a legitimate way of doing it, but the real issue is the time it takes for your population in that system to grow enough to have that 2nd population unit that you have to have in system to use the in system method, if its a new colony that takes around 18 turns to get that 2nd population unit. and thats assumoing its a system with a terran or an ocean planet in it. have you seen how long it takes for a full lava planet system to get that second population unit>?

had never that issue i usaly take the planet with the highest food prod. it takes 3-4 turns for the second pop to come then just enough time for the first exploit and maybe a moon scan and then its col making time smiley: biggrin

Well about "in" colonization... In moo2 you had the ability (once researched) to simply start colonization pods from one of your planets, going to other planets inside your star system.

This way you didnt have to build colony ships just to get to the "other side of the street".
