yesit does effect the starting system for sure,

i definately dont recommend building 6 or more ships at a time for sure but 2 or 3 ever 10 or so turns is fine, my home system curently replaces a single population unit in only 3 or so turns, maybe i got lucky though as my home system contains a large terran and a large ocean with eden and thats it.

but they have max population very quickly after i take 2 or 3 units from it.

its dramatically faster to refil thier population than to wait on a new system to get a second pop unit to start the colonization of the second planet in that second system.

Wow... I did not even realize you could colonize from a different planet in the same system. That makes so much sense! smiley: smile

The other thing "in-system" colonisation allows you to do is to get growth back on a planet that has maxed its pop.

I'm still pretty new at this, but I have done a mix of in-system/out-of-system colonization, but for me the key is dropping the tax rate really low in the beginning (about 20%), focusing on food production buildings, technologies, and exploitation. Most of my planets gain a new population about every 3 turns, which makes for very fast expansion, whichever route you go (colony ships, or in-system).

It seems like fast population growth at the expense of everything else is best because more population will automatically lead to more science/industry/dust very quickly.

Yes, the happier they are, the faster they'll come. But if you do that at the beginning, you won't earn dust... But Dust isn't very usefull at the beginning, I didn't use it at all, now I use it to buy tech from my allies!

It depends on your faction. If you generate lots of dust, kickstarting your colonies with self-sufficient farms or a heavy isotope plant, paid with dust, is often a very good idea.

I have a planet ready to colonize within my system but don't have a clue how to populate it, the pop on my home planet is at around 5, so I have enough pop. The user unfriendly UI is of very little help.
