Their look reminds me of Babylon 5 Vorlon ships... flying backwards smiley: smile

I hope, that they do NOT have massive drawbacks on the military side, because in that case their playstile would be just like sophon. And I like the design quite much.

At 3,500,000 psi, hydrogen goes crystalline and becomes "metallic hydrogen." Part of Jupiter may be composed of this stuff. Some gas giants may have rocky (sort of) cores made of silica and other hard materials. So, I dunno.... metallic hydrogen held in a stasis field to make ship hulls?

The trick for any intelligent lifeform that developed in that environment, would be getting from high gravity and extremely high-pressure into vacuum and zero gravity for space travel. Deep gravity wells make that first step a really big one!

Anyway, while I think it would be WAY COOL for the Amoebas to come from a gas giant planet, it would make more sense if they were more terrestrial/aquatic, just to explain the similar tech tree with all the other races.

That's a natural brake on weirdness with all games like this one, where different "aliens" evolved on different star systems use very similar tech. The basic laws of physics would be the same, but the way each species has to develop their tech would be vastly different between a terrestrial species (which AFAIK, all the current ones in ES are), and something that learned to crawl its way out of the gravity well of a gas giant, using silicon and metallic hydrogen for raw materials. Whatever they used for technology would be really different

From the first look I can tell right away, that I will play a LOT of this faction. I've always had a crush on alien races with advanced technology. And Amoeba's ships look amazing!

Sooo... goodbye Sophons, welcome Amoebas! ;D

If the AI is good enough, they could be a shadow manipulator race like the Drath in GalCiv2. Instead of fighting the Cravers directly, make someone else take them on.

I just realised what the Amoeba ships reminded me of. IMO they look sort of like some of the alien "space monsters" from Gunbuster,

, , , . The larger ships in particular have the same kind of aesthetic.

In my eyes their ships look very cool and remember me of shells or the "nautilus"(in german) here a picture:

and that should be the looking of the head of my custom race smiley: biggrin by the way...smiley: wink

With all the other humanoid races, I could piece something together from the tidbits we are given, but I feel like the Amoeba warrant more than "They are goo in space and like to meet new people" :P

I am actually glad they were rather spartan about their culture, gave me more room for my interpretation. In my opinion they provided just right details, like 'a planet with no molten core', 'communal knowledge' and mentions of vulnerability and the most sophisticated and cosmopolitan are ample grounds. Whereas the other factions display humanoid anatomy and physiology for central nervous systems this is not the case for the Amoeba.

I'm in the process of writing up a longer piece of my belief for a back story, but a huge twin elliptical marathon sophon game is calling and I need to report what seems to be a bug in the new alpha for growth.

well in my opinion they kind of look like flying versions of the big bugs from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, its an anime movie made by the same guy who made spirited away

From their description, I think they will have a very interesting playstyle. I am sure(Hope) that they have pretty good drawbacks on the military side, to force you into a more scientific/diplomatic approach.

Pretty much this.

There was a show on Sci-Fi.... Farscape maybe.... That would seem to be what's nagging you. Two of the key characters were the organic ship and it's symbiotic pilot.

If they're strong n diplomacy, then you have to earn a lot of dust and buy technologies to other races.

Some kind of hypnosis that works even on cravers would be an interesting ability.
