It's interesting to see a race which doesn't resemble humans that much in physiology. So it's definitely an interesting race to play as. It also somehow seems more realistic for it to be non-humanoid.

They're definitely interesting. I just wish I new what inspired or influenced their ship designs. I almost feel like the design is familiar, but, I just can't put my finger on why.

"Amoeba" is just the name given to them by humans. After all, in English we don't call other countries by what they are called in their native language. For example while we many use the name Japan the actual name is Nippon (comes from nihon?) and that is how people in Japanese refer to it. The word Japan is merely an exonym used in English that has no relevance with its name in its native language.

My thoughts are: "Woo! Lord Running Clam, the Telepathic Slime Mold from Ganymede!" smiley: biggrin

They don't play differently at all ~

Try playing Klackon [MoM/MooII] vrs Dark Elf [MoM] or Darlocks [MooII]. Those play differently. A varying tax rate does not equal a "different" play style.

You realize this game is still in alpha and every time they add or edit something, the AI also has to be tweaked, right?

7 enemies on impossible is probably easy for anyone right now, even if you pick the worst possible playstyle for a faction.

No, what I'm saying is that the united empire will undoubtedly have their own name for each of the alien civilizations that is different from what the they refer to themselves as. It would make sense for them, then logically to name them after something they are more familiar with ergo they are called Amoeba's. And no I don't assume that English would be the main language of the UE, But the game is in English and it therefore makes sense to use the English interpretation of the name. The UE would just call them whatever their word is for equivalent single-celled organisms.

I'm loving them, even with what little we know thus far. Assuming their faction factors appeal to me, they may replace the Sophon as my favourite race. Also, they're one of the most exotic-looking alien races I think I've ever seen in any sci-fi. smiley: biggrin

but regardless of their jellyness their ships are sort of unnerving since they look like combine dropships.

Sound like they work a bit like the aliens in Peter F. Hamilton's Commonwealth Saga novels.

The best strategy I've found for those two factions are indeed very different. Try experimenting more, 4x_Fan.

I'm wondering what everyone's thoughts are on the new upcoming faction, Amoeba.

For me, my thoughts are that its going to be an interesting factions. If anyone has read the description for Amoeba, then you know what I'm talking about, if you don't, then look on the Amplitudes website and it should be the first thing that pops up. When I read the description, and saw that they can separate there consciousnesses and actually can become one with the ship. Neat right? I also saw the designs for some of the ships and they look they giant underwater creature that could levitate. I am definitively going to play that new faction to see what they can actually do.

Most games do this, it's a compromise. You either have a fair number of races with fewer different mechanics, or a very low number of races with more different mechanics.

Sure, they look cool, but will they play any differently?

~ Having played all the factions barring Cravers extensively [Cravers...fartooeasytoaccidentallywinwith], the game needs some tight adjustment / balancing / resource / race ability alterations to make the races play differently. At the moment, the differences are cosmetic at best [esp.withregardstoecon/taxratebuilds].

~ This is said with the largest respect; but at the moment, the underlying mechanics of the races (barring the Cravers) aren't unique enough, imo. Or to put it another way: even on impossible, you can play Horatio much like the Sophons much like Empire and still get a win. *Booo*
