And the manga is the better one. Much better. Have read it way too many times. My sister likes the movie but I think it hasn't aged that well. We both are huge fans of Miyazaki.

on topic:

Amoeba will be interesting to play if their natural habitation will indeed be gas giants (or barren planets).

Don't know what the remaining races have in store, but I can say Amoeba will be one of my most played races. Alongside with Sophons of course.

well in my opinion they kind of look like flying versions of the big bugs from Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, its an anime movie made by the same guy who made spirited away

That's what I was thinking of too. smiley: smile

(BTW: Hayao Miyazaki did the manga and the anime of Nausicaä)

Its just convergent evolutuion at work, bipeds seem to work well in most enviroments.

And for the ones in which they dont we have the Amoeba.

I think that I may have found a race to take the place of the Sophon's. Although saying that, if their tech is not up to par, then I'll stick with the Sophon's but I hope it will be!

Perhaps they choose to go by that name because their real name would be unpronounceable by other species. Since they are very much about exploration and contact with other species it would make sense for them to go by a name other species can pronounce without hurting their vocal cords. Then again, it might just be a placeholder name. Either way's fine to me.

The only thing that bothers me, and a lot, is the name 'Amoeba?' An earth-centric nomenclature for an amorphous alien race. I think it's a lazy name, unless it's a working-name. If it's a placeholder name, then color me excited!

I love them. Not only because of the organic-looking ships and the beautiful artwork but also because they are one of THE most exotic races in the game by far. Well that and the fact that they're more interested in getting to know other races than consuming or exploiting them.

Not quite them either, as if I remember right, they were very dexterous and mobile machines, not exactly ship-like. I really don't know. It's probably a mix of various sci-fi things just poking me in the brain to give me this wonder.

Organics atleast to me, would mean less hp, but rapid hp regen. perhaps even in combat lol.

I'd love to hear more about how their racials are - I can imagine their ships might have a natural armour or repair after combat since they are organic. Or that they are more tolerant of "hostile" enviroments (aka. starting colonizing techs)

Let's see them try to eat a box jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri). Soft stuff can have its own kind of nastiness, and I hope that's played up with this new faction.

The biggest ship has some inspiration from the calamar cruiser in star wars 6.

About the name, it's an earth-centric thing maybe to give name to everythings smiley: smile. Maybe they don't have a name for themselves. Maybe they communicate with something else than words.

Hmm...A bit, but not quite. Not squid-like enough. :P I was thinking of the Collectors, though. They still aren't what really struck me, though...Ugh, why must my memory do this to me? There probably isn't anything else and I just think it looks familiar.

They're definitely interesting. I just wish I new what inspired or influenced their ship designs. I almost feel like the design is familiar, but, I just can't put my finger on why.

The art work is fantastic and the concept is great, especially due as stated it being non humanoid.

I appreciate the concept more for how it fits into Endless Space's integration of hard science and futurist dreams.

It's fitting they are in a universe where mathematical and scientific knowledge is necessary to survive, yet while we wouldn't

say slime mold has the prerequisite consciousness to comprehend or assimilate knowledge on that magnitude they have been tested for what covers a

number of mathematical fields.
