I'm far less worried about the player-made bios having gender and far more worried about the "Glados AI" Portal knockoff being a potential lawsuit from their biggest online distributor, especially if the team doesn't realize that they're about to adopt a trojan horse into the canon of their game.

Would the Amoeba as a race reproduce quicker if they are an asexual race? I wonder if this is factored into their race characteristics.

I think they should reproduce a lot quicker yes, and it has already been stated they are more diplomatic, possibly rapid expansion equal more influence which makes for a more diplomatic race?

It looks like Galdos AI is going to lose so don't worry about it unless it makes a sudden comeback.

I think it would be scary to be Asexual like an Amoeba... I mean seriously that one lonely night when you're home alone and you start watching NSFW material... and bang you just had a kid... scary stuff.

Thankfully the freshly fissioned little polyp will take perfectly after you and probably crack a beer and order ES to play too.

When humans are in question, "Asexual" most often means the sexual orientation: an asexual person has no sex drive. Thus an asexual human probably doesn't start watching NSFW material. Why would he/she?

Reading this thread I remembered that British sex ed show we Australians were unfortunate enough to have on our television airways.

I remember a segment that discussed how a microscopic worm like organism in the ocean was male at one end and female on the other end.

For pleasure, and Asexual reproduction is present in the life of an Amoeba, should look it up ya totally should smiley: smile

I was thinking the same thing. I always imagined the Amoebas (as the species) to be some sort of divisible, non-gendered, sentient gamete or something.

Wouldn't they have genderless pronouns like.. I don't know... Zhe? Xe?

Xe is fairly widely accepted.

Xe/Xem/Xir (Xyr)/Ximself (Xemself)

(He/Him/His/Himself, respectively)

They shouldn't have gender but maybe for purpose of inter-species interactions they choose a gender they represent themselves as.

That's more appropriate to a race that is hermaphroditic (i.e. both male and female*) than one that literally has no gender.

*As we understand them. Some races may even have three, four, or more genders! Achron pulled this off and had a 3-gender race. Any two different ones would reproduce to get the third, IIRC (based entirely on forum comments, as I haven't played that race yet).

Note some are also It.

Theory: Amoeba have no physical gender, but exposure to gendered races and concepts have lead to those with certain personalities choosing to identify as He or She. Those who are It might even find this practice silly! Who knows!

Remember, gender is a spectrum, not a binary switch. It's also much more about self-identity than anatomy. All we really know here is some Amoeba are addressed as He, some as She, some as It. Nothing more.

Totally agree that they should be genderless and it seems weird they get he or she.

Aren't we anthropomorphising the Amoeba faction in general just by having them in the game? Not too many space faring, intelligent, colony managing amoebae around today.

Amoebas that can shift out of their bodies. O_O I wonder if what we are seeing are their bodies or manifestation of their consciousness.
