As a civlike, ES is fine. My next 4x purchase, however, I hope tends more the other way.

I like the idea of random minor empires and ancient ruins from extinct races.

Yes, I'm all for a more exploratory feel to the game. I'd really like to see some space anomalies out there. I want to feel like Picard at the end of the first episode of TNG..."Let's see what's out there!" It would be great to encounter non-space faring races on planets, you know the "natives". They don't have to be flushed out like the player races, they just need to be there. Perhaps they could be listed as one of the planet anomalies that you must "deal with" in some fashion for a few extra turns before starting up a trade agreement with them or putting a colony on their planet.
