How to add soule to the game

Yes the game needs some more life. I would also like some additional battle animations to make the battle a bit less lifeless. The fact that every destroyed ship explodes in a flash of light becomes kind of boring after a while. I would enjoy ships cutted in half by beam weapons or ships destroyed by kinetics floating around as perforated hulls....

Also a more detailed planet surface view would be nice..you remeber the planet view of Moo2? Even considering the stone old graphics this planet view gives you an impression of the environment you are colonizing making the game much more lively.

So my bigest compliant about this game is the lack of soule. And i have been thinking and i belive i have som thoughtes.

adding randon exploraion events.feks finding ships, resources and tec

adding a capiral planet in eache system where the system improvments are easy to view.

Making some short simpel event movies for the bigest events like settlign the first plannet.

adding som fun messages from the ai players sending you emails

adding scenarios wiche stick more to eache factions story. Like having amobiee not grow but they have a set of tecs and planets.

Makking the ships change as you add moudls and wepons.

adding huge ships

what do you think?

-I don't know about the random events presented. Tech seems like it would be a silly thing to have as a random event; you could get a seriously overpowered tech that makes you feel like it's an unfair system, or you could get a useless tech that you can't even use and you'll wonder why the system is there in the first place. Resources are something that already have a working system in game, since you have to research them and you can already find them; it's not really a "random" event. Finding ships also shares its problems with finding tech. I think the idea would work much better if you could find random junk that gives you dust (through sale or use), but not a lot of dust.

-Having a "capital planet" seems a bit weird to me. Considering an empire is a collective, and communication is probably much more efficient in this universe, it makes sense to have a capital system, but in reality a capital planet in a system would really serve no functional purpose. Each planet would have its own economy and government agencies, and since decisions for an empire at made at the empire capital, not on a system-by-system basis, there's no need for it. System view also gives you an effective rundown of what the system has to offer, so there's no aching for a capital planet to organize things.

-This sounds pretty cheesy for one thing, especially when you may end up playing hundreds of games of Endless Space and the cutscenes are only interesting a few times. It could also be a bad thing, since it would seriously ruin the pacing of the game. You would have more cutscenes in the early game and almost none towards the end, which would make the late game seem far less interesting and incredibly inferior to the early game. It would also be the kind of thing where, should the cutscene play EVERY time you settle a planet, or just the first time? If it doesn't play every time, players will want it to. If it does, it'll be annoying. Plus, it would probably have to be disabled for multiplayer, because it would lengthen the waiting time for turns. And again, if they disable it in multiplayer, there will be people who want it enabled.

-This is one I like. Like other people said, taunts/threats would be interesting. Although the issue comes when you have a lot of allies. When you're in the middle of a galactic war, you don't call the leader of an empire to discuss the weather, and Amoeba players may find the galaxy far more dull than a Craver player.

-I'm really not sure what to make of this one.

-I think everyone can get behind this, although it would be a massive project from a design perspective.

-Sins of a Solar Empire: Rebellion did this, and while it's interesting to look at, I'm not entirely sure it works from a gameplay perspective. It's fun and awesome to have an enormous ship at your disposal that can crush anything, but I don't think it's all that fun considering there could be an enemy ship coming at any time and you won't know. Still, people like it, and all power to those who do. But the other issue with it is the fleet size cap. You can only have just around 10 "population" per fleet, and if you had a super-powerful ship, it would probably have to be all alone in its own fleet. And that's just no fun to look at. Unless it had a smaller "population" rating, or none at all, which would be simply way too overpowered. But again, it's an idea people would enjoy, but it's probably best left to the mod community than the dev team.

Sorry I kind of shot down all of your ideas... I just try to keep things in perspective, and these seemed more like they would dumb down the game than make it more interesting (or make it interesting for a few games, then dumb it down when you realize they didn't really improve the gameplay that much)

Although I feel that this has been suggested many times before, I nevertheless totally agree - the ideas presented would indeed be helpful in making the game deeper, so you have my vote! smiley: smile

creating animations for when we interact with the other factions would go very far into bringing this game to life. Scripting a personality; attitude; and such into what they say to us would help as well. I feel as if I am playing endless excel at times.

I do like the idea of random exploration events, ai's sending random messages (perhaps taunting you or bullying you at times), and the simple event movies would be nice as well though not stricly neccessary.

Hi

I have to agree with nearly all points written in the first post. I would like to see (really) a lot different ship hulls and hull sizes as well as possibility to have longer I would say "epic" battles with more ships at the same time.

I have been thinking how I would like to improve game to get more variability and re-playability. Maybe involving player more deeply into battles (space and ground) as well as more interaction with heroes for example. I would like to see "planetary system view" populated with planets and moons orbited by space stations and fleets.... (dreaming smiley: smile

enjoy

Those are all phenomenal ideas - adding more of a 'story' element to the game is always a good thing! Even the ability to have event/faction/improvement/tech specific messages pop up, or changing victory conditions, or even "tactical" victory conditions. I suspect that changing ship models based on equipped weapons and "set piece" scenarios would be extremely hard even for the developers to add.

On the other hand, though, I feel like Endless Space has more soul than almost any other game I've played. I'm starting to feel attached to the races and their universe, much like I once sighed in awe as the Kushan found their Homeworld at last.
