True. Most games seem to make their strongest weapons look the flashiest/coolest.

I'm fine with the way the weapons look now, really. Besides, how could we really change them aside from beams becoming a laser graphic, instead of what we have now? Change the color? Wow, that's, uh...Pointless.

I wish all the battles fired all simultaneously, instead of clicking attack 17 times, that all 17 fleets would engage the 17 other. It would give the battles a sense of epicness smiley: smile

I tend to like draw battles, because that's what usually happened in naval battles. Two sides would engage- really cautiously- and trade a few rounds, attempting to damage the other. But because both weren't willing to take big risks (most admirals weren't ambitious and unlike us, they'd die), the battle would end up with a stalemate and drawing off. The battles in the game start off kind of like that, but eventually, in the late game, it's a win or die scenario... So yea, longer battles!

I suggested beams because it would at least differentiate them from kinetics. Currently they both look very much the same, but fortunately some highly educated people convinced me laser weapons travel slowly to conserve their energy.

Seeing how they are represented now one has to believe that kinetic weapons move at the speed of light as well. lol

Okay, so, the laser weapons are traveling slowly (which I assume to be less than the speed of light)...Why does one now have to believe that kinetic weapons are traveling at the speed of light? It looks more like the beam weapons have been slowed to roughly kinetic speeds, not kinetics shot out at light speed.

Why? I don't believe ships are traveling that fast.

And a kinetic weapon that moves at light speed would just produce a nuclear explosion. and would likely be a particle accelerator.

Heck even in Halo they make it a point to point out that MACs only fire there slugs at 40% light speed.

I don't have a hard time telling them apart, because i don't even use any thing but lasers for pew pew ownage. But that's just me, i have my race set up so a dread can hold over 600 tons so walls of lasers tend to kill every thing in long range phase.

If it was realistic, you wouldn't see anything at all!

It would be cool, but it would also defeat the purpose of Command Points.

I would be happy with them looking like Turbo Lasers out of Star Wars. I remember being a noob in Sins (not that I'm far past that point yet) and thinking the lasers beams did just massive damage because they looked a lot more threatening than they really were.

I'd rather see the laser as some kind of beam weapon like in SOASE.

As far as I remember they have Beam, Pulsed, Railgun, Plasma and Missiles weapons.

Shouldn't the different lasers at least look different, or the different missiles? As it is, i skip combat all the time, because i get bored, as it looks the same all the time.

This is something I can agree with. I would like for my massive death-lasers to look more terrifying than the dinky little level-1 lasers that are firing back at me.

I really like the combat in this game, it's quite refreshing, to view it from the sidelines, instead of micro-managing the single bits. But i find it quite annoying, that even though the combat is more on the artistic/visual side, that each weapon from the different types has the same animation/effects/graphics. Shouldn't the different lasers at least look different, or the different missiles? As it is, i skip combat all the time, because i get bored, as it looks the same all the time.

Giving lasers travel time does mean you have more time to admire them. And the game is artistic, and it looks really friggin' good; what's wrong with that?

he whole of combat in ES is artistic.... there is no real difference in how energy weapons and kinetics are displayed, only missiles look different. I said it would look cooler for beam weapons to, like beam... yeah... well lasers having travel time is a bit odd to me, but then again I got out of school.

Unless the reason they go slow is to conserve energy and prevent the beam from dissipating. Again, we don't know how lasers work in this game, so we can't exactly nitpick what we see just because it doesn't agree with what we want.

Also, you say we only see turbo lasers because they look cool, but you also said you wanted the ES lasers to be instantaneous because they would look cooler.

lol, whatevah... they go slow to conserve energy... omgwftbbq

really? really really really?
