Health bars for ships during combat

That sounds really useful considering how often I reuse the same hulls for different things

Those sound good as well, though what I had more in mind in the OP suggestion was that during combat I could bring up a list of the ship names/types that were still left standing.



So lets say when the combat starts I have a fleet consisting of:



2x 'Barrage' missile frigates.

2x 'Voyager' scout frigates.

1x 'Patcher' repair frigate.



During the long range phase one ship gets destroyed... currently it seems there is no way to actually know what that ship was. The fleet composition only deals in ship numbers (/).



So what I would like to see instead is either:



Cheap and easy - I hover over the figures of numbers of ships remaining in my fleet, it displays a tool tip that lists the actual names of ships remaining.



More extensive - A expand/collapse section on my fleets side of the interface, that lists all the ships currently left in the field and depending on how the game actually calculates combat, each ships current status.

I'm not sure if you're familiar with Gratuitous Space Battles but it's the only thing that comes to mind... Are you referring to a statistics screen at the end, like GSB? Or are you wanting more along the lines of a chart showing when certain ship designs were destroyed and by what without some of the extra stats?



Either way... more information is typically good as long as it's presented in a clear and concise manner. I say this while finishing off a term paper for my last Ph.D class which is heavy in statistical regression analysis. Succinctness is good. Presentation is good. To hell with complicated presentation of data, no matter how useful it is.
