I noticed that this is already in a voting! I just hope that if it get into the game eventually that it will be complemented with at least a slideshow like the ones used for faction intros.

Bio-terror

Invasions and so are lengthy painstalking buisness that is all well and good for nice clean upstandig wars.

But I like my wars dirty, grim and bordering on the insane (In fiction that is). Being able to bomb a planet to dust, razing improvements and causing havoc demands a fleet in orbit for several turns.

What I would like to see is the return of the death-spores (yes. mOO2 again, pardon me but that game is pretty much the bible of 4x space games). Having a small fleet of terror-ships inflitrating the enemies space and dropping deadly gene-plagues would be a quick and dirty sollution to costly and lengthy invasions.

I'll admit that I like to string along the other empires once I have reached a dominant position. But, the current expansion disapproval and the tense frontiers makes this almost impossible. Being able to raze a few systems of planets to give some distance between my empire and the other opponents would go a long way towards reducing these tensions.

Though I'm sure the developers will put in a diplomatic penalty for killing a few billion or your opponent's citizens.

I'd like to see this...i'd also like to see planet destruction (like the old MoO2 stellar converter death star)

There's already one solution for this built into the game: Errant Fleet smiley: smile My recent game as pilgrims I employed exactly this tactic to put a halt on the growth of the AI without having to worry about additional systems to defend - move in, take over, build errant fleet, leave, let system be reconquered...but with virtually no population and no improvements anymore smiley: smile

So is this going in the game at all? It lost the votes three times in a row for some god forsaken reason, please tell me that the devs decided to hell with their idiot community and are just implementing it anyway?

Well there is a difference between "razing systems" and "destroying system". Razing a planet makes it neutral - starting from scratch. Destroying it actually makes the entire star system disappear. But agreed, this has lost the G2G vote like 3 times or something - we will have to implement it, sometime!

Check out this thread if you're interested in the G2G votes: in the past, we have implemented features that lost as well.

It was called "Razing Systems" the first few times, that it's not in the latest but the, as you said, somewhat different "Destroying Systems" is is what got me worried.

Absolutely. The entire planetary conquest/destruction side of the game need to be greatly expanded. As it stands now, it's very uninteresting.

+1 This idea.

There are many gameplay paths that open up with this idea. Isolationism (I don't want to expand or have others expand near me.) or Disruptionism (I wage war only to disrupt other factions from rising and have no interest in expansion while waging war) for example. With the current implementation it feels that the 4x Expand phase is forced.

Just my thoughts.

Agreed. Sometimes it's just much more effective to wipe out a colony than it is to take it over.

Definitely agreed. Anyone else have fond memories of going around in Moo2 without troop transports just bombing planets back into the stone age? Ahhh.... yes.... +1 to the idea.

+1

So much easier to just simply destroy a colony with no resources on them, instead of having to take them.

I can't wait for multiplayer to get enabled..because I can just imagine how annoying it'd be to have another player just blow the crap out of your colony you established to connect with Hexaferrum or antimatter. lol!

As I said on another thread about pretty same subject: this is genocide ! you barbarian !

Can't wait smiley: smile

By the way, a solution could be employing massive destruction weapon. (transforming all the system worlds in barren or lava worlds)
