This option was in the G2G votes a couple weeks back, though it didn't get implemented it will be added at a later time. From what I read on it...

Definitely should be implemented. When you are halfway across the galaxy trying to destroy your enemys, it sucks having to protect the new colonies. It just makes it that much easier for them to retake them. Of course, they also tend to produce a lot of colony ships and spread like wildfire when they are being attacked on on side. There should be an Occupy or Destroy option.

You'd have to be able to destroy system improventes too somehow, otherwise just killing off the population is not such a huge deal long term, as this is usually something you'd do mid- to late game and at that point you have several systems that are constantly at max pop and you can roll out colonizing vessels at virtually no cost at all.

You would need to adapt the AI to use and counter these strategies. If players are razing AIs and all (hostile) AIs are conquering the player you get a lopsided military situation. Tactically the Conqueror needs more ships to secure the empire than the Desolator, forcing upkeep higher and (eventually) stranding them behind technologically the obvious way to counter is through cutting out missions. The conqueror needs to ignore most planets and try to eliminate large portions of the opposing fleet.

I agree with the fact there should be other options than capture. Raze or even blow ? why not ? Got a stellar converter, a deathstar or some red matter in stock ?

*get's all warm and fuzzy remembering his Stellar Converter fleets wiping out the enemies, then rebuilding the asteroid belts into usable planets.* Yeah, what about a tech to build planets out of asteroid belts :}

Agreed that this would be good, although I think it should be quite deep in the tech trees and there should probably be some negative affect on happiness for a period, at least for the 'good' races.

hold on, we don't have to destroy planets, I was thinking of intense kinetic bombardment asteroids could be immune, and how about "survivors" one planet in the syastem, loser's choice, keeps one population unit... a thought. Of course if you want to go Manhattan project I wash my hands of it.... and then use it in-game anyway lol.

Oh. Destroying a planet is useful. Have had to occupy many piles of crap to secure my front. Especially Craver depleted ones. Just a drain on my empire when I could blow them to hell and move on. Or build a planet out of the rubble. Have no interest in owning depleted planets and feeding the Cravers living there.

Here's to a Short, Victorious War. ;]

How about this: After the colony is taken over, you can choose to keep the colony or raze it. To raze the colony, you must keep your fleet there for x turns, depending on MP of fleet and population of the system. This would probably be equal to at the least half the time it took to capture. Alternatively, after the system comes under full control of your empire, you could be give the option to abandon it. This would actually be good to have on any system you have (save the home system). Basically, any colony system that is completely in the empire (full bar) can be abandoned. Perhaps this generates a colony vessel as well, perhaps not. Another fun option would be for you to release systems or groups of systems to their own government, creating an additional AI of your faction. This AI would start as friendly and allied. And a final addition, if a number of collected systems are extremely unhappy with your rule (the more connected, unhappy systems, the bigger the chance), there would be a possibility that they would secede from your rule, creating an additional AI of your faction. This AI would start as hated and at war.

I think a razing system like Civilization is simple and saves effort. It take a turn to reduce the population of the star system by one until it reaches zero and becomes "free" again. If you wanted, you could add modifiers based on raw military power or MP vs planet-size/planet numbers which lets you increase the rate of razing. You could render the enemy fleet glassing and launching troop pods in the planet view for some eyecandy. Perhaps a anti matter bomb buildable unit that's warped into planets for a endless space nuke analogy?

Yes. The ability to bomb a colony until there is nothing left is a must. I was actually searching for the option to do so in my last game :/

+1 Sometimes i just wan to do deep space raids, destroy a couple of colony's and so weaken the industry out put of my enemy (especially when i'm weaker and need most of my fleets to hold on to my own core worlds). It would add another layer of warfare strategy's to the game.

Depends.. Do you have an enemy fleet, sneaking about in that system? I did. Spent countless turns doing absolutely nothing.

This thread is the origin of all discussions about razing colonies.

Feel free to post here about this topic here and inform yourself about the variations the threads listed above have already discussed, but don't open new suggestion threads for anything alike. smiley: wink
