Mississippians Community Event

The da Vinci Event may be over, but we’ve got more in store for you with the Mississippians Community Event starting today. Switching things up a little, this event does not feature individual challenges, but instead pools the contribution of all our players towards unlocking a special reward for everybody: A new culture to be added to the game, the Mississippians!

As you might be able to guess from their name, the Mississippian culture flourished along the banks of the Mississippi and its tributaries, establishing numerous chiefdoms between the 9th and 17th century. Their influence extended across much of the south-eastern part of the present-day United States, but they are nonetheless sometimes called Cahokians after one of their biggest and most influential settlements. At the heart of these settlements lay a public plaza with monumental earthen mounds, with structures ranging from grain silos to temples constructed on top of them, given these flat-topped pyramids great cultural and ritual significance.

This event will run from today May 25th to June 9th, and since the Mississippians are well-known for their earthworks, this challenge is all about construction, counting the Builder Era Stars all of our players collect. It doesn’t matter which culture you’re playing, if you’re using mods, or the Bolivar beta. Just build your beautiful cities and collect those era stars!

On your way to unlocking the Mississippian culture, we also have some other rewards in store for you:

  • 500 000 Builder Stars: A wallpaper pack with the culture art for the Mississippians... and maybe more

  • 1 000 000 Builder Stars: The Soundtrack for the Mississippian culture

  • 2 000 000 Build Stars: The Mississippian culture unlocked in the game

All unlocked rewards will become available with a future update and be free for everyone who owns the game. You can check progress on these rewards at any time by checking the Humankind Games2Gether homepage, which will update regularly.

Knowing how passionate our players are, we’re sure you’ll reach these goals easily. So, have fun building your grand cities!

Very excited for the new content and I hope we get more events like this to shine a light on other interesting and unique cultures.

Indeed, I just hope that this doesnt become a norm, avatars and cosmetic symbols worked because they dont majorly if ever impact the gameplay, but for a 50 dollar game that is currently not in a state worth its price, locking out  a entire culture with its own special unit/building and bonuses, behind a time limited event is something that should only be done once, maybe twice.

Hey! Thanks for turning my positive post into a negative! You guys will really take every chance possible to bash this game huh?

I don't normally like leaving negative posts about games, so often I don't, but with this event I did because I felt the devs were being unrealistic about what the community was able to accomplish. So I left a comment venting my frustrations and despite being upset tried to leave some, what I felt, was constructive criticism about ways to better implement community events. But you know what? I was wrong! And I owned it, making a post pointing out the fact I was wrong and tried to make an over all optimistic view of things to come. It's not helpful to constantly bash the game for being "unfinished" or "unworth its price tag" and it can't help the dev team getting things done.

These are human beings with deadlines that are often out of their control and bills to pay. They clearly care a lot about this game, and I think it shows, the community events are fun and engaging for concurrent players, whether or not you specifically care about them, their Cultures of Africa DLC was, I think, reasonably priced, and they constantly try to be helpful with streams and by responding to people's question comments.

If you're upset that the game is unfinished, fine, wait a few months for more quality of life updates to come out. I'm just really tired of seeing everyone be so pessimistic about this game. It's not constructive and participating in the narrative it's "not a good game" just because it launched early with a few bugs is going to do nothing but ensure no one plays this game and it gets sunk.

I for one really enjoy this game. I think it has quite a few refreshing takes on a much beloved game genre and I really look forward to how Humankind continues to evolve and grow.

Congrats to all comrades who partecipated , hope we keep doing this type of events but not like this where all community could risk to lose an additional gameplay feature (maybe make them available for everyone if we complete the goal, but if we don't succed at least allow us to buy it from a dlc)

I'll join other guys at 'eating own words' table, then.

Much respect and fingers crossed devs will mark that one as a success and keep returning to it every once in a while to bring more interesting one-off cultures.

There seems to be some confusion about this, so let me be very clear:

Playing during the event is NOT a requirement for playing the culture once it releases. The goals of this event are to unlock the culture for all players, just like with the Community Challenges we ran for the Endless games.

Even if you don't even own Humankind yet, you will get the Mississippians after they release. The Mississippians will effectively be a "FreeLC" (Though I don't know whether they will be listed as such or just integrated in the base game data).

ah, I see, Its just that I was worried that due to how previous events were made, this one would have also gone down a similar path.

Same, it seems that for the Lunar New Year it was the cultures participating for the stars goal that were too restrictive (inducing some replay fatigue I guess), not the global amount of stars needed.

Another thing that helped for sure is the "you can play modded" in this event. I'm pretty sure I contribuited a grand total of 0 stars to the LNY event because I basically only play modded nowadays, but could help this one

I feel there is a big unhappyness about Community Events (one way or the other, whether it is "simple" community challenges like this or the individual events).

I also understand that devs want to bring content that really gets people engaged, with a new culture being a really cool goal.

But I think maybe it would make sense to hold a poll on these things? What people would like to see as events, which rewards, what time-limits etc.

Is anyone else getting the message "No Event Available" from the Events option when first starting the game? I was able to see my progress for the Da Vinci event, and briefly for the Mississippian event, but for the last few days, I get the message instead. I've confirmed my accounts are linked - but if anyone has any suggestions (and you can still see the event) - please let me know what I might be doing wrong. Thanks!

The "event" on the menu is tide to the Individual challenges (like Da Vinci), that is the reason on why this event section is not displayed in the game.

I'm actually surprised we got this many stars already, so I might have to trust the process. Here is my strategy for earning fast points: I play on a small map, blitz mode and nations difficulty. I don't advance until I have all the builder stars, after that I advance as soon as possible. A game lasts me about 1.5 hours this way.

This event should've been held as Bolivar went out of beta when people are eager to come back and try the big new update.

Hard to believe how poorly these events have been handled. Oftentimes the unlocks don't even work properly, this event can't be tracked from within the game not to mention the baseline awfulness of dangling bits of content above our faces offering it in exchange for grind and turning the game into a job.
