Is Anyone Else A Little, Sad-Ish about the delay?

So I was sorta waiting for this game (I'm still in lockdown) and to be honest I was kind of upset, but more sad of the delay. So I wanted to ask the community if anyone else wants like an early access instead of opendev? I just feel like that might help the situation if that makes since. (Also I'm losing my mind in lockdown and I need this). Is it possible?, because if it's possible I'd definitely like to have early access. I'd like to hear other peoples opinions about it, thank you everyone.

At least it’s been confirmed by the devs that they want to do an apology Opendev on the day the game was supposed to be released.  But, as it stands: I prefer the opendev setup over an openbeta, as opendevs seem to be working better than betas to actually keep amplitude focus on targeting priority problems related to what aspects of the game they are testing out in any given opendev

I fully expected this so I am not sad. If anything I'm the opposite... Glad! Lol. With the lack of communication leading to the april launch date I was very worried they could utilize the feedback from the lucy open dev on time. All's good in my view now, but hopefully we get atleast another test now down the road to show the changes made prior to launch and we can help refine it with new feedback.

I'm the same way. The lack of news in the past few months seemed to point to that they were doing some major reworks behind the scenes. I'm happy to hear they're delaying it because it means a better chance of the game being excellent on day one.

Actually glad.  Judging from the beta, it would use a bit of work.  Better game on release.

Yeah but I mean, it just seemed a bit odd making empty promises though. I'm a little worried they'll break that date too. I guess its ok as long as they're improving the game though.

They most certainly will.

Они сказали, что будет несколько OpenDev. Первый из них планируется открыть 22 апреля.

I’m actually not happy about them adding Lucy to the preorder bonus. She came of as a pretty horrible person in the trailer and I was glad to be done with her after the open dev lol. I’m seriously considering canceling my preorder just from this new bonus and not at all because of the delay.

I’m a little disappointed, a little hurt, and a little bit angry.

I would definitely like early access since there is no reason to believe this game will come out this year and I would like to actually use the product I bought nearly half a year ago.

Sorry if I’m a little bit salty, I’m just upset that they gave us no development updates for I think three months, then when multiple people in the community asked if the game was delayed they said nothing despite knowing it would be delayed, nothing!  Then at the French direct yesterday they gave April 22 as the release date.  This is more than a lack of communication.  This feels like they don’t care about their customers and is extremely low class of them in my opinion.

To the OP I’m very sorry to hear you are struggling with lockdown.  If you have Netflix, I’d highly suggest watching star trek deep space nine.  It has seven seasons, terrific character development, and is one of the best shows I’ve ever watched.  Also, if you are wanting 4x content you should check out filthyrobot on youtube, he played a ton of civilization 5 competitive multiplayer, and has over 300 games on his youtube channel.

Well, it's more of a surprise to me than a disappointment. This is the second time the release date has been pushed back, isn't it? it was originally supposed to release in 2020 but Covid pushed the date back several months so I wasn't expecting a second delay. Or at least not one so long. Especially as they waited so long to announce it when people had already raised their concerns about a delay. But it's for the best as we'll get a better game in August.

It's interesting that they feel like they have to delay because they need to meet the somewhat overblown expectations of the community. In light of these expectations, you only get one shot at a successful release and if folks are disappointed because it wasn't the perfect game they'd imagined it would be instead of the game they were shown and promised, they'd get killed in the reviews.

Finally, I haven't seen an explicit promise to give us a third opendev to compensate for the delay. I read that they "hope" to have one which is like saying 'we hope to release in April'. I'd like to get a crack at the modern era game and see how well balanced the game is overall.

There was a massive thing burning up in the atmosphere that I could see on my drive home, did anyone else see this on the west coast? It scared the crap outa me, some people from Seattle (Washington) said it made an angled curve. I saw it burn up for a moment, and then it basically disappeared. I hope to get other opinions on this. Did anyone else see that?

Yeah, strongly agree with that. Lack of communication was disastrous. Many times folks ask em if there will be a delay, they said to the last that there will not be.

Fully agree with you guys, it's a quite disrespectful towards the community to announce the delay with less than one month to the release.

To be honest the whole absence of communications throughout recent months was quite bad especially comparing to the end of 2020. If you are working hard but unable to meet the deadlines - that's far from ideal but at least keep us updated throughout the production cycle and feed people small gameplay videos/articles/screenshots explaining what exactly you are doing.

It's alright to say the game will be delayed by couple of months due to the fact that we are reworking A and B and adding C and D.

However when everyone were on the low start to test game in one month and you're suddenly delaying it by 4 more months - yeah, that's really bad. And while it is understandable that some changes has to be made (esp with regards to pacing/balancing and some additional features) I don't think it will bring the game to the "ideal" state  and tbh 4 months is a huge time period (entire DLC production could take less).

People being surprised at video games delays is mind blowing to me. You could see it coming from miles away. A delay on the release date is a decision that is made by top management and the publisher, and usually at the last possible moment. Developers and community managers knew about the NEED for a delay, but could not communicate that to us until the decision is made. They also cannot talk about potential changes about the game because they don't know if it will be in the game at release.

A lack of communication is in that case inevitable and is a sure sign of a delay incoming. 4 months is probably not enough when some of the core mechanics are not working properly yet, but I guess you can only push so much. Happy they did not go the Anthem way.

So it's not a sign of disrespect, it's the opposite. Their hands were tied and they were not going to bullshit you with stuff that might not be there at release. If you want to see disrespect towards the community, look at the City Night Wires streams with CP2077, where the developers are hyping stuff knowing pretty well that it's all cardboard panels to hide the void behind.

While I would love early access just like a few others when we get closer to the date and they mostly just want feedback on balance, you need to remember one thing and that is early access is not always good for a game. A lot of people play early access games and if the game is incomplete, missing features, etc they run to the steam review section and give it a thumbs down. Doing that harms a game’s future sales cause then it can go from a positive review to a mix review very fast. Now for the most part it's not any of those games fault people don't understand what early access means (though sometimes it is though), but with how it currently works with reviews it might be best not to do it. I think unless the game is very close to release and just needs some OoL changes and balance changes, then it's better to just keep doing Open Devs to avoid the whole "early access = final product" mentality.

I am not sad but glad they took this route: it is usually necessary to take additional time for bugfixing and balancing in general when it comes to software releases

This is party due to how projects are managed + human behaviour

Having looked at the open beta there were tons of balancing to do, rework or food system, art assets to be improved and full regression testing can only realyl begin once all the functions are in place - which was not yet the case (trade posts and lat era tech)

I am sure they really need the time and wish Cyberpunk had gotten more of it before its release

I would assume one would be able to also delete an avatar so not even have to look at it - otherwise all the experimental avatars created by the palyer woudl get stuck and gum up the roster

If delays taught me anything, is that the more you delay, the higher expectations rise and higher disappointment will be when something inevitably won't meet them.
