One serious bug but otherwise a pretty smooth ride to 3rd place full of capitulation but I wasn't ever a vassal. Just a debtor. I forgot to take a picture of my econ graph. Probably to embarrassed.

According to the score this was my worst era - but I made a good chunk of fame in this era, eking out fame where I could.
There were a few other AI's that didn't make it out of this era.

I transcended for an extra 10 points of fame right at the end when I completed this Wonder.
You may notice the fame only says 100 on the banner, but I checked, I got an extra 10%

Unfortunately my favorite city got captured and I lost the Temple of Halicarnassus which was a huge boon to my lagging research but it was interesting. I did one play through of the last 15 or so turns where I pushed a little harder to transcend to Joseon and really... Coming to the Early Modern with Phoenician and Carthage under your belt sets you up very solidly for Joseon and within about 8-10 turns I had tripled my science from ~320 to almost 1100. That's a very nice transition but definitely needs to be more aggressively pursued.

Research pacing feels much better in this dev.

Vassalage needs some tuning. All big spikes seem to be vassalage and not merchant affinity. But I may be wrong.

Congrats on the win, sounds like it was exciting :)
My Humankind difficulty game was way too easy though, idk why, combat AI was decent, but on the game map they were pretty bad.
And I'm curious, what total science output did you end the game on?
Because from my experience they've balanced the amount of science you need per tech based on your city count pretty well, since I've finished a couple games on drastically different amounts of science anywhere between 900 to 9k.

So science needed per tech is based on city count?
This explains why I finished the tech tree so early, around 119,

I finished a game on humankind, ended first but with very thing marginal and I ended the game by advancing into industrial era, rather than reaching 150 turns.

How were you able to advance so far ? Have you played other difficulty levels ? I’m wondering if the later Eras are only available on the higher settings.

Reaching 7 era stars per era is not that difficult. The game ends once you pick an industrial era culture. You can research industrial era technologies by having a culture with scientist affinity and staying in early modern since those can research techs one era ahead.

The 6th from the top, Empire?
But since I was a merchant, I couldn't advance beyond early modern techs, so there would be more to do if I choose science focus as the last.

Do you want to see the graph or did you want a number? I think I got it up to around 600?

First Time Humankind difficulty, easy win after a hard start.
Full tech-tree unlocked at turn 124. (full because science focus allows you to go one further)

Pheonecians --> Carthagians --> Ghanians (OP district) --> Joseon (sadly the only science focus at that time)

My Capital is producing 12k science without focus active. (harbors are sick later on)
All the world follows my religion which means each of my 10 Holy sites gives 500+ science.
