Bug description

After the Logo movies the game takes me to a loading screen and loads until roughly 80% (ca. till it reaches the hand logo in the downside right corner) and stays stuck there until windows gives me a "no response" message.

Steps to reproduce

1: Start the game. Wait till loading screen -> bug.

Expected behavior

I expected the game to load and take me to the main menu.

Notes

I have already tried all fixes listed in the master fix list here and on the steam forums. I have checked for any 3rd party audio software. I have not participated in the open beta, but did the "delete documents" fix anyway with no success. I do not have epic game store currently installed nor had i ever.

I have created a forum thread on day one of full release but so far no dev has replied to my problems, so i created this one.  I am aware of similar issues of others in other threads and followowed those closely and attempted fixes there mentioned.

The problem persists since day one and has not been fixed by updates or hotfixes, yet.

All other games, including unity games work fine on my pc.

Looking at my diagnostics the next things should be:

18:13:12:113None

An instance of type Amplitude.Graphics.Fx.FxComponentTextureAtlasManager has generated a cycling LoadIFN. Check the stack.

18:13:12:304None

An instance of type Amplitude.Graphics.Fx.FxComponentTextureAtlasManager has generated a cycling LoadIFN. Check the stack.

19:33:46:963None

Release ComputeBuffer

19:33:48:380None

Starting new session of type 'Amplitude.Mercury.Session.Session'...

To me it appears to be an issue with graphics card/drivers. You have tried verifying all the game's file with steam? Graphic drivers are up to date? Have you tried installing latest c++ runtimes (32 and 64 bit versions)?

yes, i did all of that as per the suggested fixes list. Reinstalled runtimes as my first attempt of fixing this and updated all drivers.

In  your dxdiag there is this one thing that stands out:

------------ DxDiag Notes ------------

Display Tab 1: No problems found.

Sound Tab 1: The file P17.sys is not digitally signed, which means that it has not been tested by Microsoft's Windows Hardware Quality Labs (WHQL).  You may be able to get a WHQL logo'd driver from the hardware manufacturer.

Input Tab: No problems found.

Your sound card drivers are up-to-date? You also have a lot of USB devices installed currently. Have you tried removing (unplugging) all but the necessary ones (mouse/keyboard) to play the game?

Also have you tried doing this:

On Steam, open the Properties of the game and add -force-vulkan in the launch options field ?

yeah i've seen the P17 thing myself. It is however the most recent driver for my sound card as itseems. I'm trying a reinstall right now. Reinstall comes with same unsigned warning, but is from 2017... strange

USB devices are my HOTAS and Stick for dcs :p Already tried unplugging.

Also tried the -force-vulkan option, no luck here.

You have a dedicated sound card or is this an integrated sound on the motherboard? It appears to be integrated as it says hardware emulation only.

I'm assuming the video card is a dedicated GTX 980 and not some form of integrated one on the motherboard?

yup it's a dedicated gtx. not sure about the sound card right now....

sound driver reinstall did nothing, sadly. Also i'm now over 2 hours just looking at that opening screen while attempting to fix things, so there goes my refund option.

Some things I would try if I were having the same problem:

In the settings under Audio set Enable sound to OFF. That should rule out the sound card.

In the Video set resolution to lowest you can choose. Quality level to lowest you can choose. Vertical sync to off. Enable FPS lock to off.

See if game will start. If not, then go back to Video and set to Windowed Mode and see if game will start.

My bad, you can't even get to the main screen to do that. If you have integrated sound try disabling the sound in the BIOS and see what happens.

Well i will try this tomorrow i am too tired for further fiddling right now.  thx thedarkrwaith for some suggestions, atleast. Very strange this, every other game runs without any problems so i am 99% sure the problem ist NOT on my end. Still would love to hear from a dev about this, or if there are fixes regarding this on the way, since i'm not the only one who reported this. (some have pretty similar diag logs to mine)

Hello!

Could I ask you for an updated DxDiag if you've made changes to your video card/audio drivers? Just to make sure the information I pass on to the rest of the team is up to date to reflect all the troubleshooting steps you took above!

Thank you!

I'm noticing that the P17.sys is unsigned (which is troubling)

I'd probably start with updating your soundblaster drivers, unsigned audio drivers shouldn't be something Creative is doing

i even completely reinstalled them as mentioned above AND deactivated my soundcard via BIOS to make sure it isn't the source of the error....

The driver is the latest one from Creative. I also find it strange it's unsigned but it seems it's support has been halted:

downloaded from: https://support.creative.com/Products/ProductDetails.aspx?catID=1&subCatID=207&prodID=17510&prodName=Sound+Blaster+5.1+VX&subCatName=Others&CatName=Sound+Blaster as you can see it is 6 years old but i haven't found an official newer one for my soundcard when prompting a driver update via device manager or windows update.

Do you by any chance have any VPN software installed/enabled?

Avira free security has a VPN function but is not enabled. I tried disabling avira completely  and see  if the game loads then, but that didn't work.

I also have OpenVPN installed for my university work but that usually doesn't run.

So no, no VPN is enabled.
