Easier.. maybe.

But I was never a fan of videos in 4X games.

Videos simply don't have the grand feeling to them that written AARs have. Its just a vid.

... but thats just my opinion (^^,).

I love this thread but if you would make a video of a game

with a nice voice tell the story parts it would be better.

Admittedly it would be a lot easier and I could do it in segments as I go. I do have a Mic, and I do have video capture software. Though any advice to how to get software that picks up both my mic and my game would be awesome.

Good to hear Kaari, and yeah I got a good start here but I have created an alternate save to shoot ahead to see what may happen. Let's just say things will heat up soon enough.

Thanks a lot Craig, I'm not brilliant at this game yet and the slow pace of this is helping me understand the game better myself. Still thanks for recommending it!

Turn 38 - 39

Excluding a few minor construction projects nothing really happened of note.

End Turn 38 - 39

-------------------------------

Turn 40

Eureka! The Adaptive Colonies project is now complete, we can now contend with and in some cases remove planetary anomalies. This will allow us to turn Cheng II into an ideal Terran world.

Now that we have finished our expansion research for the time being, we can look into developing our Collective towards more internal matters. Such as improvements to our economy, planetary improvements and food production. Also we will invest some research into the Collective Academy, Uthman Fahedhm may be our only Administrator for the time being, but we should consider bringing some new talent on board as we expand.

We have also included two new units of Restorer Transports and split them into the two defence fleets. (D F Alpha and D F Beta respectively)

Finally, we have send out the Pathfinders to explore nearby Node Lanes in order to determine what is ahead of us. Reports will follow when the information is sent back to us.

Turn 33

Thanks to the efforts of the scientists in the Collective we are now able to improve our habitation modules on planets to allow more population to live together in comfort, this will be best suited for smaller planets.

The colony on Cheng II has been established. For now our workers are deeply involved in creating new ships to further reinforce our defences, but once that is complete they will begin work on a Colonial Exchange on Cheng II to improve the system economy.

From humble beginnings on a single planet system we have grown quickly. It has taken us 33 years so far, but we now have spread our Collective to four systems in total. Yet, we have not met any alien life, the pirates themselves should not be taken into consideration, they are merely outcasts. I would not be surprised if a few Sophons died on those vessels. None the less, we must move forward as we have always done.

Turn 31

Repair work has begun on the Guardian damaged in the battle for Cheng, the next one will be ready in less than a year. The first Pathfinder has arrived at Izar and is awaiting the go-ahead for further exploration.

End Turn 31

------------------------------

Turn 32

The second Guardian has joined Defence Fleet Alpha, ideally we would wait until a Restorer could be assigned to the fleet, but we will send them to Heracles next turn. We are now moving ahead with our colonisation plans on Cheng II.

Uthman Fahedhm's skill has grown significantly since we first assigned him his post. Thanks to his efforts Cheng has grown into a major power centre of our local constellation.

Turn 30 Continued

The attack was successful, but the job isn't over yet, we are signalling to Atlas to send a Pathfinder over to hunt down the last pirate vessel before they can make repairs and escape.

We have found them! Moving to engage, they barely have any guns left online. This will be a quick clean-up.

The Pathfinder may not be designed for combat but they were successful. Now we must repair the Guardian while another is constructed. Our faith in scientific progress has rewarded us with means to defend ourselves. We must now finish our defensive plans and begin to expand outwards and discover what other dangers are before us.

The Battle For Cheng

We have launched our Guardian into orbit and it is moving to engage the pirates. We wish them luck.

We are moving into firing range, they seem indomitable but we need to prevail!

Our strategies caught them mid repair and we threw them off balance, we must press this advantage while we can! Our reactive armour is coping well under their projectile weaponry, they seem to be defenceless against our laser weaponry.

We have finally breached the defences of their ship, the lasers cut through to their reactor and triggered an explosion which consumed the damaged vessel.

We managed to take down another ship but their last vessel was able to limp away as we moved out of firing range, they won't be able to go far, we will get them in no time.

Battle Result: Draw with severe damage to enemy fleet

Turn 29

The raiding continues on Cheng, our defences are holding for now, but we need to start engaging their forces in space.

End Turn 29

------------------------------

Turn 30

The Sustainability research is now complete, improving the technology developed from Arid colonisation we are now able to expand onto Desert type planets.

It has been decided that we must take a risk, the pirates have hounded Cheng for too long. The first Guardian vessel is ready to launch and we will engage immediately. They outnumber us 3 to 1, but we must have faith in our research and technology.

I'll make a new post for the battle phase

Turn 28

The new Compact Fusion Reactors project is complete, with this new energy source we are now able to consider colonising Arctic planets as well as improving the engines of our starships.

The Collective has finally established a colony on Heracles. The ship arrived earlier this year and with decisive actions we chose Heracles II as the first landing base. The Molten Springs found on this planet should help us power and supply the new construction works here and soon the planet will be growing rapidly.

We have now completed the first stage of our defensive plan. Once we have dealt with the pirate raiders on Cheng we will move fleets into position over Heracles and Izar to protect any routes into our territory.

Turn 27

All hands to emergency positions! Alert the Collective on Atlas! A hostile fleet has appeared in Cheng and has begun a blockade! We were just finished with the Xenotourism Agencies when the attack struck.

We have pushed back the colonisation effort of Cheng II in favour of quickly building the new Guardian corvettes to fight off this fleet. It will take some time, but they don't appear to be assaulting the colony just head. We should have been prepared for something like this, the universe is a dangerous place and we were caught unaware!

On Atlas our new colony ship has been built and we quickly dispatched it towards Heracles. Hopefully it will escape the conflict that is about to unfold.

Now that the first colony ship is away our production lines are working towards making Pathfinders to explore past Izar and Heracles, then a new Progenitor for Isso near Atlas.

End Turn 27

With our weaponry suitably updated for now we are going to concentrate on our expansion technology for now. One of our science teams have suggested that we investigate a new reactor form to improve our interstellar engines. They will be working alongside our Arctic Development research team who are hoping to create habitats that will use this new power source to create artificial environments on a larger scale than we have attempted before, this will allow them to create Sophon-friendly atmosphere bubbles which will allow us to establish colonies on Arctic planets which are much too hostile for us right now.

After this a team has planned to develop moisture catchers and to improve our genome plants to encourage growth on desert planets. Once these two major projects are done we will begin looking into developing our colony build practices and then into adapting the worlds through minor terraforming, if possible.

edit: I recognized you don't rush the 22 money for the administrator or nonbaryonic particles for the magnetic shield generators.. any reason for that? (in my opinion its one of the strong suits of the sophons)?

Haha, would be an idea :P And yeah, I've never really worried about heroes until turn 5 or so. I understand their benefits but it's something I always get around to. And the Nonbaryonic Particles for me right now is 40 turns, probably better to set up a foundation first before I leap through the technologies. But I will take that into account and see if I can sort it out. I've been messing around with the races and this is my first attempt at a seriously calculated playthrough.

@fellidan who cares for ressources you have a nearly perfect production system delivered for free (^^,) (well it would be better if all were jungle but ... hey whats perfect?)

Seeing you AAR I'm trying to set up something similar with my UE game.. but as I'm writing down the turns I've played so far I recognized that I should've taken a _LOT_ more screenshots... it's so easy to forget that while playing.

Turn 6

Our scientists have finished our Xenology project. This will allow us to access new types of luxury resources for personal use throughout the collective. Now it is time for us to begin our environment adaptation projects to allow us to colonise arid and tundra type planets. The estimate currently is 6 years for this project to reach fruition.

The Scout Corvette has almost reached it's destination, hopefully within the next year our local system will be fully mapped out and we can begin production for our colony endeavours.

Our farming development is almost ready on Atlas I, within the year we shall begin construction of our next colonisation ship. This is a great dawn for the Collective, we shall expand outwards and secure a defensible position within 10 years.

Development upon Cheng IV is progressing slowly, but within 4 years we should have a significant growth in population in time for the project finish.
